Time for a NASCAR network?
Seems like all media are only on the lookout for the big attention grabbing headline. Sadly, the NASCAR media is no different. You've got guys like Pockrass who ignore anything in depth in favor of anything he can twist into being controversial. Thankfully TNT does since great historic segments as does Dave Despain with his all too rare Speed specials. Marty Smith also manages to knock out some exceptional stories from time to time.
It's all such a quagmire these days. And the ubiquitous Twitter feeds keep those who follow even a few NASCAR personalities up to date in real time. The networks end up catering to the very few people who haven't yet gotten any NASCAR news which turns into a rehash for the rest of us. The only thing I even watch live anymore is the actual race. Everything else is fast forward only to stop for certain interviews or boobs.
The problem with racing highlight shows is repetition.
There is a redundancy problem with the racing highlight programs.
Personally I think they just keep recycling the same stories from one show to another.
The above methods practice insults the loyalty of those who would like to learn about or just relive the most recent racing events.
There are at least 50 worthwhile stories to cover most every weekends. Usually somebody drove a great race and still lost every on weekend in one of the top three series. A crew chief made a great call, a tire changer executed well the whole race. : There are four or five East series drivers who's development is worth chronicling. How about a story on the underdogs that out drive their money, and if someone covering races cant find that driver, he is blind and he should find a new profession.
We can live without the shock jockery, What is needed is good in depth coverage, that covers a wide range of real racing stories. That is a basic and reasonable expectation Dick Berrgren and company did just that with pen and photography long before today's technology.
About 20 years ago there was a show on the The Nashville Network called Inside Winston Cup Racing, it was a 30 minute show that recapped the weekends action from the previous weekend, used to come on like Saturday evenings if I remember correctly. They would always open the show with what was going to be talked about & then go to commercial break at which time Goodyear had that commercial with all the most recent Cup Champs ending with Richard Petty putting on his shades. It was a great show & I watched it pretty much every weekend I was at home & not out doing something. I think having a NASCAR show on Showtime was a dumb idea right from the start, what because the Southern 500 had their name on it for a few races, Showtime is an adult themed movie & tv show channel? NASCAR shows should all be on either TNN, the Speed Channel, or maybe even WTBS. Just my thoughts but hey, i'm from the South so i'm biased...
I used to like the show before its last revamp. Back when it was one of the Waltrips, Hammond, Steve Byrnes & Larry Mac along with guests. I quit watching it when Voda, Petty & Rutledge Wood took the stage.I know that some of the fans on here didn't like Trackside, but I enjoyed it.
Who knows....eventually maybe they will replace it with something even better.I used to like the show before its last revamp. Back when it was one of the Waltrips, Hammond, Steve Byrnes & Larry Mac along with guests. I quit watching it when Voda, Petty & Rutledge Wood took the stage.
That could be but then again, it wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that there is long lost brother of Rutledge's out there and they somehow find a way to pair them up with the brothers Waltrip creating the most incomprehensible NASCAR themed show of all time.Who knows....eventually maybe they will replace it with something even better.
