Today marked the fourth time that Bill Elliot won a race while somebody else clinched the championship:


1983 Riverside (last race of the season, B. Allison champion)
1987 Rockingham (3rd last race, Earnhardt Sr.)
1992 Atlanta (last race, Kulwicki)
2003 Rockingham (2nd last race, Kenseth)

As best I can recall Gordon didn't clinch until the next weekend at Atlanta.
