Interesting read on the Chase.

I was reading my Lowe's Track Record (Jimmie Johnson fan club magazine or something) and it stated the Chase was seeded, not by points position at the end of Richmond, but by bonus points for winning.

So that would put Jimmie and Jeff in the front two spots. I don't think there have been any other repeat winners this season, so I'm interested on how this works out from there.

So, if Harvick won at Indy, Bristol, the Glen or Richmond, he would be right up there in the Chase at Loudon, right?

I'm scratching my head on this because I've never heard this mentioned anywhere before.

The way I understand it is that the top 12 will be separated by 5 pts ---then bonus points will be added for wins. That will determine the order for the last 10 races.

Starting this season, the 400-point cutoff is eliminated and the top 12 drivers in the points after Race 26 will qualify for the Chase.

All 12 drivers will have their point totals re-set to 5,000; each will then receive a 10-point bonus for each race victory they had during the first 26 races.

The Chase drivers will be "seeded" to start the Chase based on the number of wins amassed during the regular season.

Yeah the 5 point differential is so last year...
Jeff and Jimmie 5040, Tony and other winners at 5010, and the non-winners at 5000. Not much of an advantage when you consider how HMS dominated so early.

I think it is a bunch of crock if they don't give "any" points based on finishing first, second, etc during the regular season. There should be some incentive for a 1st place finish and not base it only on wins.

I totally agree! What's the point of having all those points the first half if they're barely going to help you during the 2nd half. I think it sucks. Even my husband didn't know they reset them all to 5000 and just a few bonus points for wins. He and I don't understand this business about the Chase making it more exciting for the fans. Why? It cuts all those other drivers out who might have a good season later on and it screws the ones who did so well during the first half.

You wouldn't think that if Jeff Gordon was 8th in points.

also, on top of that, they bumped the points award for each race win by 5 points on the normal scale. so really they're earning 15 points per win.

Not really. I just don't like the Chase at all. If he continued to race all year and moved up, wonderful. If he didn't, he wasn't racing as well as he is this year. Of course, I believe he's going to win more races this year, but if he didn't, then he'd lose his lead, bit by bit. Do I love he's first in points now? Sure! :D If they want to make it more like football, then all the other drivers wouldn't drive to the end of the season like if you don't make the play-offs. Jeff is my favorite driver, but I do like other drivers, too. What I love most, is good racing! :bounce:
