Interstate 40 through Knoxville is due to reopen for through traffic one month from today.

According to the State Department of Transportation, the project which began just over a year ago, is being completed ahead of schedule due to the closing of that stretch of road that allowed crews to work around the clock.

During that time, traffic was rerouted on Interstate 640.

Be glad you don't live in Maryland. It took Chuck County three years to complete a three mile road, five years to complete Rosewick, and six years to repave Billingsley. State is even worse, Maryland estimates the 301 bypass will take over 10 years to complete.

Do you ever cut through @ Strawberry Plains to go to the airport? If so, do you think it's shorter to go that way?

The second to last time I went through kentucky, I said it would be a cold day in hell before I ever did it again. So i wasn't terribly surprised when I had to sit for 4 hours on the interstate when all traffic stopped ... because of about 10 mintes of freezing rain ... which had been predicted over 12 hours before ... while they waited hoping it would warm up some.

I've hit it lucky on 640, so far. I don't have to drive it everyday.

i'd call that a miracle IF it were to happen in states i've lived in.

I just went through there today on my way back from Branson.

I go through Knoxville quite often as I 40 is one of my primary routes.

I will be glad when it opens up and it relieves the pressure on 640.

Thanks for the post. I was just mentioning to a fellow worked today that I was thinking it would open sometime this summer.

"Ahead of schedule" doesn't exist here. Only "Delayed" or "behind schedule".
