Well, Apple's finally done it, my next phone will be a Samsung.

New phone is more expensive than previous models, the new OS doesn't address battery life problems on older devices. Somewhere along the lines in trying to copy Android, Apple's forgotten that battery life is important to people and is more focused on trying to blackmail everyone in to buying their newest, greatest device.

I now have two iPhones - one has become a paperweight thanks to iOS7 battery drain and a chip the size of an ant turd malfunctioning and the other has become a glorified corded phone because someone else installed iOS7 on it and rendered it useless.

I wonder if Apple will ever release anything NEW, or are they just going to keep recycling the same phone and tablet.

Everything Apple is doing now is not innovative. Android has been doing for years.

Don't get a Samsung. Get the Sony Xperia Z 3. Trust me. Or try the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. That is what I am using right now. Trust me you will love it.

I don't need the latest and greatest, I just want a ****** phone that works. 3G/4G, battery life, mobile hotspot and GPS are the main things I need. I have a laptop and iPad for the rest.

To go off another thread who still wears a watch?

I had Samsung through the galaxy nexus. Then jumped to the nexus 4(LG) and now the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. My wife has a note 3,and buddy a galaxy s5. My Sony and LG are better built phones. Samsung feel like plastic toys. Plus touch wiz is very resource heavy and clunky. Sony's Android experience is closer to stock Android which is a smooth seamless experience.

Nice to read that Apple is finally catching up. For those of you not willing to fork out the high ransom that Apple demands, welcome to the world of Android. You'll find that you will be in a much better place with all the bells and whistles that Apple has only just come to realize.

So what are ya'll thoughts on AT&T Next?
Do you like never owning your phone? It's a rip off, IMO. You will pay your payments for the 12 months, then upgrade to a new phone, and start paying for a new phone all over again. Repeat after 12 months.

Do you have to upgrade to a new phone every year? If you choose not to upgrade, do you get a discount?

Unlimited talk and text + 2GB data shouldn't cost more than $50/month.

From my understanding you dont have to upgrade, but i'm not sure.

I don't like the idea of the next plan, because i do think its a rip off..but I'm in a catch 22, I'm on a shared plan with my wife, if I don't use Next and sign a new 2 year contract to get a new phone (I actually need one, mine is 4 years old and doesnt work right) my price will actually go up by $25.

I don't have AT&T, so I'm not sure. I don't think you have to upgrade, but I think that's the whole purpose of the NEXT program. To upgrade sooner.

T-mobile. They suck though. Service is great where I live, but if I travel, its pretty spotty, but it's cheap as hell with my 25% work discount.

Who do you use?

Right now, a house phone.

Had a phone through my employer (on Verizon) but that phone died during the summer and it would cost more to have it fixed/replaced through insurance than it's worth. They disconnected it and I have no intentions of going through them for a phone.

I can go buy a Samsung for $100 and put it on nTelos Wireless or Straight Talk for $45/month and can go buy a new phone whenever the hell I feel like it. I don't need the latest and greatest.

I'm fed up with Apple though. Every single update they do completely massacres battery life and, after a few months, those updates are forced on you by way of Apple and their App developers requiring you to update apps and those apps only working with the newest version of iOS. Then, if you have an iDevice for more than two years, they'll render it useless by requiring you to update this and that only for those apps to not work. I've had iPhone for four years now and had an iPod for a year before that.

Android phones are unstable pieces of **** but Apple's gotten greedy and, ever since Steve Jobs passed away, they've completely lost their way. They no longer build stuff that's designed to last nor do they build products with far superior battery life and performance attributes.

For what its worth Andy, I've got an Iphone 4 that's 4 years old with IOS 7 on it and it runs fine.

The only issue with it is the lock button doesn't work, and that was because my son broke it somehow.

Battery life is fine with me, it gets me through the day, if I'm out and about and use a ton of battery (rarely), I just plug it into a portable power bank. They work great. We went to Disney back in May and were away from the room for 12-13 hours at a time and had to use our phones for a new system Disney had, I had no problems at all.

FYI, Verizon has their own version of Next.

Just buy a phone on eBay or Craigslist.
