IRL Edmonton Race Cancelled

Well, bad news... The Edmonton Indy at the Edmonton Airport has been cancelled next year. The event will be off of the 2011 IndyCar schedule. They blame it on that the race lost $9.2 million dollars in it's first 2 years and $3 million in 2010.

They had signed a 3 year contract last year but that the league wanted the city to pay for the new track layout due to one of the runways being closed permanently. They said the cost to make the improvements for the new track layout were like $2-3 million dollars.

I didnt really care for this track. Wasnt it on an Airport runway. And as I remember they called Helio for blocking on it

Interesting... I made it out there this year for the IRL and Canadian Tire series. Pretty unique track, you could actually see almost the entire track from the grandstand(even though it's a road course). Had been wanting to check that one out, glad I went before they stopped doing it. Sad to see it gone but will be interesting to see how the series' schedules change. Had heard there were talks about doing a street circuit in Calgary, maybe they can get that going for 2012.
