IROC In Trouble, Will Miss Daytona
The all-star International Race of Champions will not run at Daytona next month, because series officials have not secured sponsorship.

IROC pits 12 drivers from different auto-racing disciplines in equally prepared cars. The four-race series usually begins at Daytona International Speedway the Friday before NASCAR's season-opening Daytona 500.

But Crown Royal, which covered the $1 million payout to the IROC champion, pulled out of the series at the end of last season. Without a replacement sponsor, IROC officials said Tuesday they would delay the start of the season.

"We're very disappointed about not making it to Daytona this year, and we're working very hard to find a title sponsor," IROC president Jay Signore said. "Our hopes are to find a new title sponsor in enough time to be able to have a full four-race season within 2007."

IROC has raced at Daytona in all but seven of its 30 seasons. Last year, the series raced here twice, including its first-ever race on the Daytona road course.(FOX Sports)

Heck , wish Home Depot would get involved and IROC start
a Dirt Series Event for part of the Series , could hold it @ Eldora..Eh !

It's the race of champions, right?

Then each champion should donate X amount to the cause....Who needs a sponsor?

Why?

You want my champion name there so you can sell tickets? You pay me! I don't pay you.
Betsy:rolleyes:

You would think that a sponsor would have been found by now....unless the powers that be just procrastinated too long.

And, Heaven forbid, the "champs" just race for a cup and braggin' rights. Start a new tradition that the winner gets an unusual trophy ( like a gold-painted wheel or piston or something) and it gets passed from winner to winner.

Has the ex-Busch series gotten a sponsor yet?

Yeh mean the New Wal-Mart Series ? Just kidding , they mentioned on Jay-ski ..that Wal-Mart was interested..but it's been rather quiet lately.

Well it would be much more of a level playing field..have a Dirt Oval Race , Asphalt Oval Race and a Road Course .
Id buy a ticket for that form of IROC Series.Eh !

this would definitely be a better series and much more fairer.

This series was a made for TV series in the first place and what they started out with, is much different than what they have at the present. I guess they don't think that people would tune in if there were a lineup of sprint cars, on a dirt track, with names of NASCAR or NHRA drivers in the driver's seats. It's all for the entertainment and as such, it really isn't meant to be fair. Also, because it's a made for TV event, putting it on cable TV really hurts. If they really want an IROC series, take it out of the hands of NASCAR and stop making it a companion race and spread it around to the other series.

I'm all for a dirt race.............. in modifieds, not midgets. Unfortunately maybe IROC has run it's course. It's turned into a NASCAR playground.
