3 wide...i don't mean to offend you. yes, right now i am against nascar. the "e" i put at the end is for entertainment, as in when brian france stated nascar was an entertainment company...nascare is short for national association of stock car automobile racing entertainment.
i am a long time fan of stock car racing, and continue to be one, but i am fully against nascare's recent changes. i am not talking about rule changes, i am not against rules that are changed out of necessity.
i was already getting aggitated with nascare before brian took over (long story), but when he stated that the best driver over the course of the entire season would not be guaranteed the championship so that nascare would get more media attention and better ratings during the football season, followed by the statement that nascar is an entertainment company, it signalled a shift in the philosophy of nascare (at least in what they attempted to show the fans).
considering the attendance and ratings had been steadily increasing, and nascar racing was gaining respect throughout the sports world and mainstream media, it seemed like shifting everyone's focus from being a legitamate sports sanctioning body to an entertainment oriented company was not needed...and turned me off, as i love the sport angle. racing cannot always be good entertainment, but with compitent officiating and a clear set of rules that work, it can always be good sport.
right now, i don't find nascare to be entertaining enough to enjoy as a show, and i feel they are doing a lousey job at running things as a sport.
what does all that have to do with turkey night at irwindale? irwindale was a penske track, and penske merged with nascare's sister company, isc...literally sister company, since isc's ceo is the nascare ceo's sister...i don't know for sure if irwindale was part of the merger, or if it somehow didn't become part of isc, but it doesn't matter. i am opposed to giving the france family any of my money. i have wrote letters and i complain on the internet, but i follow that up with not supporting them.
i saw many turkey nights at ascot while i was growing up, and went to irwindale a couple years ago (when stewart was violently introduced to the turn 3 wall)...so i know what i'll be missing, but it's a small price to pay for not supporting the organization that has turned me off from watching the best stock car drivers in the world.
