IMO, I believe that the NYC setting for the Banquet is the wrong place.

Try Charlotte or Daytona or rotate between venues???

The Charlotte Colliseum (sp) is a perfect setting if a Temporary Rock Star type stage is erected for the event, eliminate the 1 head table and go back to the top 10 tables onstage, and allow FANS to attend for a nominal fee.

IMHO, NYC in DECEMBER is no place to hold a banquet of this magnatude.

YOUR THOUGHTS??????????

The NASCAR banquet has been held at the Waldorf Astoria for many years.........talk about abandoning tradition. :)

SO??? Would't YOU like to see it in your neck of the woods?

Nascar can change rules on a whim, so why not this?????

Of course they can change rules at their whim and pleasure.........but I'm not sure they could get away with taking the banquet away from NYC :) . NASCAR has a lot of money, but do they have more than the lobby for the NYC convention and tourism department? Also, it just struck me sort of strange to hear someone so wrapped up in tradition when it comes to what NASCAR has done recently about moving dates and dropping tracks to ask for such a trivial change like moving the awards banquet to somewhere in the South  . It's only been the last few years that anyone even got to see the banquet on TV...........it's not like anyone really waits with baited breath for the it. Most know who won, who's 2nd, 3rd, etc.........the televised event is very recent.

And to answer your question about wouldn't I like to see it in my neck of woods...........no!! I wouldn't be anymore interested if it were held at Hanson Dam Recreation Center (about 2 1/2 miles from where I live). It's an awards banquet........and those are very boring for even the "awardees", let alone the audience.

I tend to agree. New York is somewhat out of character. I wouldn't mind seeing the Banquet at Charlotte, Daytona, Atlanta, or as has been suggested LA. My preference would be either Charlotte or Daytona.

I personally do not care WHERE they have it. I like to see it on telly though.
Soooooooooo, where-ever it is, bring on the TV as well!!!!!
And NYC does seem to be a wee bit off base?????
I agree about the Charlotte or Daytona locations.  :p

Murray, KY! :p

Now How come I KNEW you woud say that Lappy? :D

Personally, I like Charlotte.....close to home for most drivers.
Many venues in and around the area would benefit from the influx of fans thereby boosting the local economy. saving Nascar $$$$$, and teams as well.
Atlanta would work, except for traffic problems, and we do have an incredible colluseum, 5 star hotels and resteraunts all within easy reach by driving or MARTA. There is also a GREAT place called The Galleria which could host the show.
Nascar has already said "Forget About It" when it comes to tradition, so move on to a better venue for the Banquet!

If we could handle the Olympics, we could certainly host the Banquet!

The awards banquet is supposed to be the "ultimate" reward for winning the championship.
What better place to have it than the "ultimate" location, New York City !!!!!!!
After all, what can Charlotte offer that is an equivalent to New York City ?? Does Charlotte have a Waldrof Astoria Hotel ?? The glitz and glamor of Central Park ?? Or anything resembling the Empire State Building ??
The only other city in the United States that comes close to the trappings of New York City might be Las Vegas, and even then, they lose some glamor as the teams visit Las Vegas by racing there once a year.
New York City, despite all the terrible things we hear and read about "the Big Apple", is doing exactly what was intended when the banquet was moved there. It represents the pinnacle, the top of the heap, and all the crud, corruption and bad garbage talked about New York City for 362 days of the year are replaced with the sights and sounds of an alive and remarkable city geared toward a fitting finale for the NEXTEL NASCAR Awards Banquet.

Change it ??? No way. Unless the series goes international. Then they might consider London.

I wonder if they keep a supply of snow tires on hand...just in case :)

I would like to see them move it around. NY, Chi, St.Lou and LA. But it don't bother me if it stays in NY. I'll never attend anyway. :D

I think New York is a perfect place for it, more fitting for champions I would say.
