or does the Awards Ceremony seem kinda weird?

Diecast cars make great Christmas gifts?.... never thought I would hear that in a speech..

I do like James Woods, but I don't think he's a very good choice for MC. Jarrett's commercial speach didn't go well with me. The whole thing is beginning to look more and more amatuerish.

You can tell he was reading right off the board.. he never blinked..

The only thing I can say is I'm sure glad these guys are racers. I know they are supposed to be good spokesmen for their sponsors, but you can see that when they are live, it's a totally different story. Jarrett needs to learn how to cut out the ahs. I also think they do things much better spontaneously.

You would think they would rehearse before the show......Jarrett's speech or whatever you want to call it was pretty bad. The Ford thing was ok, but why throw the Action plug in there?

Just go up there and be yourself.....

Don't we all get upset when drivers like Tony break the mold?

Now that they're all up there in sponsor mode we're crying.

Paul, who's crying? Just making a comment on what I see. Actually, I don't know what I'd like to see in a banquet. Just seems like this year, they are making it a bit more like a circus, specially with the circus act that was just on. Also, I guess I miss the old days when T. Wayne Robertson was there. :(

Was it me or did it seem like Rusty was waaayyyy to giddy in his speech? He sounded like he was telling a story to a bunch of school kids.

And here comes Kurt Busch. This should be real interesting.

"And for the wonderful beginning, my beautiful girlfriend Melissa, she could make a dark day bright again with her big gums, um I mean smile. :D

DJ has always thrown in all his sponsors as part of his speech, instead of thanking them individually...He made laugh, so I have no prob with him pluggin anything...:D

Tony's speach was very good. The camera part was pretty funny. Zippy's speach wasn't really great.

That's what money does. They have to mention every sponsor. You'd think the sponsors would give them a night off and just let them be themselves. I'm not a Tony fan but I hope he on the stage every year for some relief. It's not like they just found out they won an award, they've known for a few weeks now. Plenty of time to thank everyone and make the show a more entertaining one. Show bloopers and highlights and pics of the young guns girlfriends. I thoguth Sheryl Crow was a joke but at least they didn't let Hootie do it. He sure jumped on the Nascar video bandwagon in a hurry.

I just couldn't get into the ceremony this year. I watched it, but it was more Hollywood than NASCAR. I much preferred the old setting --- all the drivers and wives, etc. sitting around the tables after dinner.

Also, Tony was tucked off so far to one side that the drivers couldn't go over and shake his hand when they came onstage.

The music choices just plain sucked. :p

And, don't even get me started on the "dance"?

As for the drivers, I'm sure most were very uncomfortable using the teleprompter. In the past, they had their speeches/notes written down and used those --- much more natural.

Ciggie forgot to tape the banquet for me, and i forgot to remind him. Anyone know if or when they are re-televising it?

Zippy looked like he was about to pass out, either that or trying to show how lame it was to read off a teleprompter.

NBC tomorrow 1 hour condensed version. Check you local listings. :)

I was thinking the same thing. I told my better half, is he reading from a children's book? Had that perma grin going on :)

I thought the show was absolutely boring. DJ and Tony made me wake up a few minutes. God knows those dancers are talented, but thats not my thing! Why even bother playing music? It added nothing to the event. I was just thankful they didn't have Spears or some young country girl pretending to sing. Oh well, I've always thought the banquets were dull and boring. Just had to watch more this year because Smoke won it all.
