Have heard one of the reasons Busch wanted out of his contract with
Rousch is because Jack started taking 75% of his souvenir sales...
any truth to this?

I don't know if that number is right, but I have heard that Kurt didn't like what he was getting from the souvenir contract.

Well they were selling them for 50% off last weekend... they'll probably be free at Homestead :p

They weren't selling his stuff at 50% off at the track last weekend. I was there and saw quite a few other driver's merchandise at substantially less prices than Kurt Busch's stuff was being sold for. (i.e. Bobby Labonte and Michael Waltrip)

I do know Rousch was taking unearthly percentages of the sales and it was part of it.

as far as 50% off, I didn't go directly infront of kurt's trailer but the only long lines i saw were the 20, 48, and 8 trailers...if something was 50% off, i'd think thered be somewhat of a crowd there...

How in the world would any of us know what the deal is with souvenir sales percentages ?????

Seems to me, that is all a part of the driver/ team owner original contract and neither Roush nor Busch can change it without the others approval.

Well I think it would be nice if the driver got a minimum of 60%...after all it is
"their" stuff.......in all fairness I think they should get 100 %..so the driver
is about last on the list when payday rolls around....

Same thing with the music industry.

It is obvious some do not understand the capitalist system. Or the finanaces of the racing world.
Sometimes, a driver brings a sponsor with them, but in todays world of racing it takes more than one sponsor to fund a race team. Assuming the driver brings a sponsor, it is up to the team owner to provide additional sponsorships and put the organization together. The team owner, driver and each sponsor with thier name on a product gets a piece of the souvenir pie. Without the team owner, sponsors, etc., the driver would have no souvenir sales, unless they own thier own team, in which case, there would still be monies for the sponsors.
Does anyone really think Budweiser or DEI is going to give Dale Earnhardt 100% of the souvenir sales ??

This is where that nasty old term, independent contractors comes into play. If arrangements between sponsor(s), team owner and driver are not satisfactory, the driver has the right to refuse the contract and look elsewhere for better offers.

What I know for sure is that I'd never ever buy any of those souvenirs. The silliest thing to me is people wearing clothes with someone else's name plastered all over them. Makes absolutely no sense. Why not wear a mask too?

Can't argue with that statement, although I will admit to owning 2 shirts, Dale Sr and Terry Labonte--still in their original packages, unopened, never worn, and that's the way they will stay.
