Kellogg's moves from the #5 to #99: Kellogg's will sponsor Carl Edwards next season following a 16-season stint with Hendrick Motorsports [on the #5 and #44 cars]. Kellogg's will be the primary sponsor for two races on the #99 Ford and an associate sponsor for the remainder of the season.(FoxSports)(11-24-2009

I imagine it is to pay less money. They are undoubtably paying a lot for primary sponsership on a Henderick car. Now they will only be a promary for two races and an associate the rest of the time. Sounds like Kellogg's is cutting costs like everyone else.

At least Mark still has a sponser for next year already (Go Daddy) which was announced earlier this past year.

As long as it gets that fugly Aflac scheme off Carl's car, it's all good. :bleh:

Maybe Kellogg's was having trouble getting people to buy kids' cereal with a 50 year-old man driving their car. :sarcasm::rolleyes::D

Gee, here I thought the topic was about "our" kelloggs". But, I know she isn't nutz, any fan of Jeff Gordon is ok with me. ;)

They are cutting way back on their sponsorship.

If you want an illustration of how bad NASCAR has it with Sponsors, Mark Martin wins races, came in second for the championship, drives for the best organization, is well known, and he still doesn't have a full time sponsor for next year.

I think it's a good idea for them to move to Edwards. He's young, and will be in the sport for years to come where as Martin isn't and won't be around that long.

Just for the sake of history, here's a few more Kellogg's cars from the pages of the '93 NASCAR Press Guide-

Dave Marcis was 52 that season, so Mark isn't the first oldster to drive a Kellogg's car! :D

But where will they get the most exposure. IMHO, it woud be with the #5 car. Now and even after Mark retires in a dozen years.;)

What's the latest guesstimate on the cost of primary sponsorship on a cup car today? Last I heard it was upwards of 20 million a year and that was at least a year ago. With the economy the way it is and the viciousness of the bean counters in accounting protecting profits I can see lots of primary sponsors cutting back.

Then what?

Maybe we'll see a return to Nascar's roots? You know, guys buying a car from the dealearship, fixing it up, racing it on Sunday?

Yea I know....that's not going to happen.

Maybe Kellogg's aren't comfortable sponsoring a car company that is owned by the government and the labor unions and has taken huge bail-outs and still is in the red.

I can understand the cost cuttin measures, but from everything ya hear, Roush is not known for his "cheap" sponsor deals..... I would think with the recent swell of fan support for Mark, and the year he had vs Carl's, well, I would rather cut back to a part time deal than move to Roush...... but who knows, Carl could be back next year as strong as he usually is...... Just seems like they lost alot of exposure with mark.

Only for 20 races. :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Yes but it is not like they are serarching for sponsership for his car:

GoDaddy.com [20 races] is scheduled to be the primary sponsor at the following 2010 races:
Daytona 500 - 2/14
TBA

Carquest [8 races] is scheduled to be the primary sponsor at the following 2010 races:
TBA

Delphi [2 races] is scheduled to be the primary sponsor at the following 2010 races:
TBA

what about the other 6?

Edit: Here is a good article on the sponsor issues NASCAR is having. Apparently Dupont only wants to sponsor half the races next year. (rumor)

The Frosted Flakes for older gentleman with the "little blue pill" flavored marshmellows and Mark Martins face on the box didn't go over well at the last Kelloggs board meeting...
