"Is competition better than ever? There are statistics supporting that notion:

All three manufacturers have won races thus far, led by Chevrolet’s four victories.

An average of 12 different leaders per race, compared to 8.6 at this point last year.

An average of 25.6 lead changes per race, compared to 17.4 in 2013.

Total of 29,541 green flag passes, compared to 23,178 in 2013.

Total of 346 green flag passes for the lead, compared to 181 in 2013.

And … an average margin of victory of 0.588 seconds, the smallest since 2008."

Say what you want about the new points system or the new car... but so far it looks like were getting exactly what NASCAR said we would. I hope it continues.

I like the racing
Yep. The new points system has created better racing. I'll give it that.

It's a shame that the better racing had to come at the expense of the championship, but given that I only really care about the individual races these days, I'm having a blast watching every week. Pretty much every race this year has been great so far.

Good point--it allows people who cheer for a less than dominant driver :)D) to enjoy more week to week as single races mean more

I hate journalists who ask a question in their article, & then answer it for everybody to read.

Obviously it's more competitive. JJ versus everyone else. I agree the competition is high but when 1 driver wins 6 outta the last 8 championships, it doesn't seem that way.

I haven't been watching NASCAR long but looking back at past races, it seems as if the racing is more competitive. I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

There are more green flag pit stops this year. That is the only reason why those stats are different this year. Which is why I have always thought that Nascar should do away with pitting under the yellow.

I'm going to come at this from a different angle; as far as a true test of driver skill, no I don't think it is.

In the competition to get the richest sponsors, field the best cars and sell the most merchandise, it's definitely a tight race but with a few front runners.

Still, a decent driver from an underfunded, underresourced and underexposed team can sneak out a win here and there David Ragan. That, however, is an anomaly that happens all to infrequently, IMO.

Other then Texas, the racing has been far and above better than the previous 8-10 years on the whole. They ain't hit the dog days yet so I'd imagine there will be a few more stinkers before it's all over.

Anakin Skywalker was the greatest pilot in the galaxy. He was the only human alive capable of podracing and won the Boonta Eve Classic on Tatooine to secure his freedom from slavery.

Let's see JJ do that. :D
