Is Rasheed Wallace on crack?

NEW YORK -- Rasheed Wallace called out the NBA, but commissioner David Stern doesn't seem interested in listening.

One day after Wallace accused the league of profiteering off of young, black players, Stern issued the following statement:

"Mr. Wallace's hateful diatribe was ignorant and offensive to all NBA players," he said. "I refuse to enhance his heightened sense of deprivation by publicly debating with him. Since Mr. Wallace did not direct his comments at any particular individuals other than me, I think it best to leave it to the Trail Blazers organization -- and its players and fans -- to determine the attitudes by which they wish to be defined."

The Portland Trail Blazers forward suggested on Thursday that the NBA exploits young athletes simply to enrich itself.

"I ain't no dumb-ass n----- out here. I'm not like a whole bunch of these young boys out here who get caught up and captivated into the league," Wallace, 29, said in an interview in The Oregonian. "No. I see behind the lines. I see behind the false screens. I know what this business is all about. I know the commissioner of this league makes more than three-quarters of the players in this league."

Wallace added that teams are drafting high school players because they want athletes who are "dumb and dumber."

"That's why they're drafting all these high school cats, because they come into the league and they don't know no better. They don't know no better, and they don't know the real business, and they don't see behind the charade."

Wallace told the paper he is aware of his status among the fans, some who have said they will not renew their season tickets unless Wallace is traded. They see him as the prime example of everything that has gone wrong with the team in recent years.

"I know I'm Public Enemy No. 1. Fifty percent [of the fans] hate me and 50 percent love me no matter what I do," Wallace said. "I can't worry about that. If you're not part of my inner circle of family, it don't matter."

Wallace also said he's not concerned with NBA officials, who whistled him for a record 41 technical fouls in 2000-01.

"That's just the fire in me. Some of the technicals I deserved. Cussing at the officials or throwing something," he said. "But some of them I didn't deserve.

"I'm not scared of the NBA. I'm not scared of the NBA officials. If I feel as though myself or my teammates have been dealt a wrong hand, I'm going to let it be known. I'm not going to sit up here like most of these cats and bite my tongue. That's not me."

 Okay so he's about one of the 6 or 7 Trail Blazers who is on crack and must have been when he said that, but how could anyone be stupid enough to seriously believe that drivel? And just to think the Bucks wanted to trade GP for him. :bleh:

He is very detached from reality. He hates the very thing that has allowed him his wealthy lifestyle and provided an audience for his bigoted verbal diareaha. makes sense to me.

Anyone who is making millions playing a game shouldn't bitch about anything.

Go out in the real world and get a job. When you see how much bling-bling you bring in then, then complain about something. But while you continue to drive your $85,000 SUV to the bank to cash another check that you made in a two week period, which is probably more than a lot of people make in a year, shut the hell up.

On crack? Maybe. I prefer to think of his comments as more representative of a bigger problem in the NBA, namely overpaid hoodlums who never left the ghetto behind.

I happened to be watching ESPN tonight. They have a show called NBA Shootaround or something. It has Bill Lambier and three other analysts on it discussing the NBA. Bill is shall we say outnumbered racially. One of the analysts, whom I had never heard of before, was quite verbose in his opinions. He had the lingo down pat. Another went on a little crusade about whether you agree with or like the comments or not, he (Wallace) has a right to that opinion as free speech. If so, why doesn't Rush Limbaugh have the right to the opinions he expressed about McNabb?

I had a real problem with the "whether you like it or not" portion of his editorial.

A real problem.

Another example of why I would have root canals before I'd watch an NBA game.

Damn well put buddy.

Today, Rasheed apologizes

PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland Trail Blazers forward Rasheed Wallace apologized Saturday for using objectionable language in an interview in which he criticized the NBA's "white establishment."

"I made a few comments that some people found objectionable," Wallace said in a statement. "Like everyone, I have a right to express an opinion, which I did.

"But, I regret using street language to express my opinion because everyone has focused on these few comments when I said other things. It was not my intent to offend anyone."

Wallace's statement, issued before the Blazers' game against the Los Angeles Lakers, was punctuated by his apology.

"So, if I offended any of my teammates, fellow NBA players, the Trail Blazer fans and organization, I apologize," he said. "I have nothing more to say about this matter."

Bill Walton rips on him today in his opinion piece on ESPN.com. Your opinions on Mr. Walton may vary, but I thought he made some good points, although his bias towards Portland does interfere a little, not to mention there is no way you can even come close to pinning the whole mess that is the Trailblazers on Wallaces shoulders.

He is just one of the many pros that belive they are above the leage itself. He makes more money then he has 3ever made. So he thinks he God.
