My people tell me it is very possible that NASCAR returns to Rockingham next season. From what they've said, the only thing standing in the way is the SAFER barriers, something Rockingham could get the funds for from testing revenue and the cost savings from dropping ARCA.

I would be in favor for a return to the Rock. It's definitely not your cookie cutter racetrack. Just be sure to put two layers of SAFER barriers in turn two.

didnt say what series. Maybe truck + nwide to replace nashville?

Montreal as well.

Iowa's got two dates, they might get realigned somehow, but it's not like Iowa's gonna get three Nationwide races.

Lucas Oil Raceway, Rockingham and Milwaukee are the wild cards. New Jersey's potentially a wild card but I have to find out more about that.

I would think that the 34,000 capacity would be troublesome. Seems small, even for NW.

That's not small for Nationwide or Trucks. Nationwide doesn't get 5,000 people in California and struggles to get 20,000 at most standalone races.

I think it would prove that fans are full of **** when they say they'll support these old tracks though. They have yet to show up at Rockingham and they never showed up to North Wilkesboro which contributed to it closing again.

I agree with that. Those crowds at Rockingham are terrible. Maybe they could pull off a halfway decent crowd for their first NASCAR return but im sure it would drop off after that. The track is pretty much destined to fail. Hillenburg cant keep putting tons of money into the place forever with little return.

California had 36,000 fans for the Nationwide race this past March. Link to Auto Club numbers.

You are correct about Rockingham though, the fans won't show.

I could swear not more than 40K would be in Cali for the cup race. How did they get 36k for a Nationwide race?

l don't know what the attendance was at the nationwide wide race in California last Year. But I had some free tickets so a couple of my teammates and I went. We drove in with no traffic. Did not have to stand in any line to get in the gate. And we could sit just about any where we wanted to because there was such a small crowd. I liked it much better on tv then I did at the track. So it wasn,t a suprise when I found out that they have dropped that race from the schedule this year. What I did like was the fan apprecation night they had on thursday night. That was a lot of fun.:)

It's a damn shame. I loved Rockingham, and the fans not showing up at North Wilkesboro combined with crappy track management caused the track to close before I could get there.

Rockingham ticket prices are not terrible. At the last ARCA race, they were $11 per person which included a free hot dog and beverage. That's cheaper than my local track ($15 gets you in at ODS).

I see Rockingham maybe hosting races for a year or two, then Andy realizing that he's better off using it for testing and collecting money from that.

I doubt Milwaukee gets back in the game. Don't they still owe Nascar some change?

I wouldn't mind seeing the trucks and NNS come to the new track that is being built in Austin. However that isn't due to open until 2013 I think.

The other theory I've heard is that NASCAR will not replace Nashville or Montreal (if that doesn't get worked out) and will shorten the schedule and only run companion races + Iowa.

That sucks

Yep.

Milwaukee, well, they still owe NASCAR money.

And Rockingham, there are many people (including myself) that don't think they can bring in large enough crowds to install SAFER barriers and get a Nationwide date (thus, killing their testing revenue). The fans didn't show up when they had NASCAR. Then, when ARCA came and everyone said "OH I'M GOING TO ROCKINGHAM!" -- well, those people haven't shown up yet.

That blows. There are so many great tracks out there that they could race one, but I understand that those tracks may not be able to afford to hold a NNS or CWT race.

I wouldn't mind the short tracks back in like irwindale and south boston, but I don't those tracks can pony up the $$$ for a race. I mean there are reasons why Nascar doesn't go back to those tracks.
