Is the Chase better now?

Does todays Atlanta race results make the Chase better?

Would the former system still be interesting?

I am torn---was not in favor of the change---am not sure if I am for or against yet.

Not sure if it is better. But with some of the guys in the chase having problems today it does make it more interesting.

Still not sure yet. Im kinda liking it but we will see after all said and done. this points thing is being ran like play offs or something. We will see after the season is over.

Today's race shows how the C4C format can and does make the Championship run much more exciting and fun to watch. Can anyone remember a season when any one of 5 and even 6 drivers have a legitimate shot at the title with 3 races to go? I'm asking in all seriousness because I really don't think that has ever happened in the history of NASCAR.

very true. But still, i would like to see it to the end before i say its better. Even though i am so far liking what i am seeing, with the points system.

While the C4C has gotten more interesting after the finish of the race today at Atlanta, I still don't like the fact that there are drivers that are being locked out of the top 10 that could have at least made it to the head table in New York.

The last time I remember was in 92. It went down to the last race with at least 4 or 5 with a legitimate shot at the title.

By the way, Welcome Gearhead

I agree with Maj!!!

(And I still do NOT like it.)

I'm not sold on it, but that is probably because I believe Jeff would have won this title under the old system. Also, as an american and a NASCAR fan I don't like change much.

But today's results definitely make the last three races more interesting.

'92 went down to three drivers, Davey Allison, Bill Elliott and Alan Kulwiki and that season was virtually decided by one lap on the track. Elliott won the last race and could have led the most laps, but Junior Johnson told Bill to pit and Bill did. Kulwiki knew that this would hand him the title if he could only finish. He did and won by 10 points, which was the result of him leading the most laps by one. If you took away those five points he made for that lap and gave it to Elliott, Bill would have won. Davey was taken out in Phoenix I do believe.

I think Davey got taken out at atlanta by Ernie Irvan, And I believe Davey won at phoenix which helped put him into the thick of things.

You could be right about that. Man, those were the days. However, we can see some of the same excitement this year and I do like the new system.

Those really were the days. As far as this year goes this is really looking exciting, with 3 to go and at least 5 drivers that could win it, things could change drastically from one race to the next.

Davey got taken out by Ernie. :(

What would be the standings under the old points system? Compare the two and you could have a better idea of which is better.
I don't like the C4C as it locks people out of the top 10 who otherwise may have had a seat in NY.

I still dislike it.

Of those with a shot to win it, I'm pulling for Kurt Busch. If not him, then Martin. If not one of them, I'm more pulling against someone than for anyone else.

But I think that the drivers who built substantial leads over 26 races got hosed. No matter who they were or whether I like them or not, they got hosed. That is the primary reason I dislike the new system.

But TPTB didn't ask me and ignored my input when given unsolicited.

Kurt Busch made it interesting yesterday, but what if He'd went on getting Top 6 finishes each week?It would've probably been a one horse Title run.

Even though there are 5/6 drivers with a good shot at the Title,it's still a contrived system. It's interesting to note that Jeff Gordon has led every week of the "chase" under the old points system, might well ahve been Title #5 for the #24 team, just might not happen under this construed new points system though. :p \

I'm also against this new points system btw.

I understand that some fans would like for their driver to have clinched the cup with 10 races to go but I'd have to check my pulse if I didn't find this format exciting. I think the The Southern 500 will be one of the best in a long, long time.

Not to mention the number of media "experts" who had declared it a 3 horse race and are now eating crow.
