The past week has generated enough messages regards the infamous "yellow line" rule, or non-rule, depending which side you are on, to keep forums full of debate.
The big question is, what will NASCAR conjure up this week at Martinsville. There is no "yellow line rule" but there is a yellow curb, something they could institute at Taledega. One thing for sure is any discussion of a "yellow line rule" would end pretty quickly as there wouldn't be a discussion. A curb at Talledega would be the end of any need for a "below the yellow line rule".
But, what is there to penalize anyone for at Martinsville?? A few have been slapped with the penalty box, and this is a way for NASCAR to once again show thier inconsistency. This racetrack promotes kick a$$ and take names style driving and at this track the cream of the crop will rise to the top. But not all drivers finishing in the rear will be lesser teams. Some very good teams wind up there by virtue of things they have no control over, and one of these incidents could result in NASCAR making another controversial decision.
Of course there are the times a few have won as a result of the push everyone out of the way syndrome, which in most cases have been overlooked, like Gordon's performance last fall where he hit everything and everybody except the announcers high atop the grandstands.
This weekend of racing is the best, by all racing standards since the beginning. This is another platform for the ruling power to assist in the outcome by making one more controversial, "gray area rule book" call. Gotta keep the pot stirred and what better place than Marinsville.
But no matter, NASCAR will most likely find a way to create a controversy, and rest asurred it will involve a top driver such as Gordon ,Stewart, Junior, Busch, Rusty or Kenseth. This keeps the fans interested and the competitive juices flowing. So why not. Now all Helton or Darby must do is wait for the right scenario, make another "gray area rule book decision", and watch the ratings rise once again.
