Is this year the best year to start a NASCAR team?

I think six teams will not be showing up at Daytona this year.

How many start and parks are we going to see?

And is it a good idea to get in while you can get men and parts at a deal?

Never a good time to start without a long term sponsorship deal in place .

thats what Im saying.

If a sponsor was waiting in the wings like say, 5 hour energy, this is an opportune moment to get in. It would seem anyhow.

I think a cup team would need a big National like Pepsi or a beer company..

Maybe it's a sign that it's getting too expensive to run a Cup team?

At some point the cost outweighs the benefits.

A competitive F1 team like Ferrari spends over 600,000,000 British Pounds to run two cars.

And F1 may have a different money schedule. But most of that money comes from sponsors.

For Home Depot to spend 15 Million is not to much to ask. Not for what they get in return.

Well, what they used to get with Tony. You know what I mean. Joey Logano isn't cutting the bread right now.

Maybe if we all chip in a few bucks we could get a car in the field? Heck, if Andy can get his post count up a little bit more I think he's elegible for the Bud Shootout.

Good question Moejoe. I think it would come down to who the owner is more than the driver. A well respected figure in the garage could pick up some solid pit and engineering talent at bargain rates and put together a good team. Convincing a sponsor to get in early and grow with the team would be the hard part. I think there are sponsors out there who see the value of NASCAR sponsorship but they are scared away by the price.

Turner is making it work in NW and Truck.

The scenerio is in place with the James Finch deal . A quality owner ,with quality equipment and a proven championship driver . His mouth and history aside, the media is going to be all over this deal .It will get at least as much TV exposure as the Danica deal .. Yeah ,the sponsor has to sit down with James and Kurt to put some boundries in place , but quite honestly , if this doesn't attract a big name sponsor than nothin will . .This is the deal you would want as a sponsor , maybe not a candy company , but a beer company ..yeah.

Possible sponsor for Kurt Busch?

I wonder how much Turner gets for a NW car?

And how does a sponsor feel when a guy is running for a championship and the owner fires him and takes that car out of the running?

Yeah, that Sorenson thing was odd. Turner said he listened to Reed giving up on adjustments during the races and decided to dump him. Allgaier took him out of contention anyway, and I think Reed just gave up.

I agree , I thought Reed was giving the car a great ride. But wasn't there a crash that took out his teammate ?

A little math:

$15 Million Sponsorship Dollars
divided by
36 Races
equals
$416,666 per race

Hell, sponsors spend $3.5 Million on a 30-second TV Spot during the StupidBowl - and that's only for the air time! Add to that the production costs and a sponsor can easily spend $5 Million for a 30 Second ad.

Less than Half-a-million will put your name on the hood of a Sprint Cup Car for an entire race. If the team and driver are worth a crap, I think that's a much better deal!

so I should just get Danica to do an ad? Is that what you are sayin?

Apparently companies are more interested in supporting men kicking balls instead of men driving fast cars. :p
