International Speedway Corp. has formally petitioned NASCAR to give Kansas Speedway a second Sprint Cup race as early as 2011. ISC spokesman Lenny Santiago says he expects an answer later this summer, before NASCAR unveils next year's schedule. He declined to talk about details of the petition that include potential dates. Santiago believes Kansas is a strong candidate to get a second race because of the track's history of well-attended events and the construction of a new casino overlooking the track. It also could help that NASCAR's primary sponsor, Sprint, is headquartered in Overland Park, Kan. It's unclear how the Cup schedule would shake out if NASCAR grants Kansas a second date.

OK..... So where does this date come from? I guess the casino money talks. Other than that, I can't see a good reason for NASCAR to move yet another date to another 1.5 mile track. If ISC has to do this then pull a race from Auto Club and keep your hands off of Martinsville.

It's funny that ISC and NASCAR are separate but are basically the same outfit. It makes it funny ISC has to petition NASCAR to do something. Have they ever been denied doing something?

Great. Another 1.5 mile cookie-cutter oval. *yawn*

Wake me up when NASCAR ads a short track, street, or road course.

I haven't been to a race at Kansas Speedway since 2007. It sell out every year, and it's near Sprint Headquarters.

I think Kansas got the more boring of the race tracks between them and Chicago. Chicago has more banking and a curved backstretch :)

I doubt the race will come from ACS. Although it hasn't sold out since the Spring race of 2004, it still attacks much more attention than Martinsville. More corporate sponsors. More celebrities. More publicity.

Say what you want about the racing at Martinsville vs ACS, ACS brings in more money to both NASCAR or ISC.

I'm glad I got my tickets for this Falls race and Martinsville already :D

I would rather Gateway, Kentucky, Iowa, or Nashville got a first date before another track gets a second.

Some of those are cookie-cutter ovals too, but I'd rather see a new track than a current one get a second date.

I think no track should have two races. It underminds the importance of it. Imagine if IRL did the Indy 500 twice a year? Or F1 did the Monaco GP twice a year?

I say get rid of duplicate races, and have more variety of tracks. I've always dreamed about making an "oval" track shaped like a diamond. Have a high banked turn for the top, two long straights for the sides, and a hairpin just before the start/finish.

Certainly a unique idea. I don't think that there are many of those @ NASCAR headquarters. I have a feeling that if I were able to break into the office of Brian France, I'd find a doodle pad next to his phone with nothing but tri-ovals drawn on it!

Yea it's right beside the NASCAR for DUMMIES book.

LOL

Don't get me started on my track ideas! Chicago could have been a unquie track if they had made the back stretch more rounded. An asphalt track where the driver is turning left all the time? Texas with a S-curve back stretch?

A lot of oval tracks that NASCAR visits have road course variations too. I say we start using 'em! Auto Club would be a hell of a lot more exciting if we used the roval!

I say we protest outside the NASCAR HQ by playing vuvuzelas non-stop until they give into our demands!

BUUUUURRRRRUURRRRRRRRRUUUURRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!

Before anyone starts dumping races at great tracks like Martinsville , they have got to consider dumping that stupid exhibition ,non points race at Charlotte . They have too many weekends tied up in that city . Race fans have to speak up or all the great tracks will be gone.

I don't want to see another Kansas race. I don't give a **** what casino they're building, they need to add new venues before they add second dates at tracks that aren't selling out their lone dates.

They haven't added a new track to the schedule since 2001. Since then, they've cut Rockingham and added second dates at California, Texas and Phoenix.

how about my design for a probably breaking the laws of physics track your still turning left but the high part of the banking is on the inside of the track

Well all I can say is that both Pocono and Cali shouldn't have two races. I don't know which group owns what because I really dont care but those tracks are horrible.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Atlanta lose a date.

I am so frakkin tired of 1.5-2 mile ovals.

Can we put a stop sign on the backstretch too?!?..Sign me up!!

I heard California might lose the feburary race for kansas...which I assume can't be in feburary

Rumor has it Las Vegas and Kansas will get 2nd dates as well as well as Kentucky. At least Kentucky is getting one.

Gateway, Iowa, ORP, Road America, and the road course in Quebec need to be considered before any current track gets a 2nd date.

Gateway will never get a Cup race. It's a nice track, but I don't think it's Cup worthy.

It was interesting when ISC was trying to get a track built on Vashon Island. They guaranteed the local government that they would not schedule another Cup race within 500mi of the new track. I'm wondering if they said the same things to Kansas City and Juliet IL.

If they promised those two local governments that they wouldn't schedule a cup date within a certain radius of those tracks, then neither Gateway or Iowa will see a Cup race any time in the near future.

I went to Kansas Speedway in 2005 and 2007. It's a nice track. People from Canada even came down there to watch a Cup race. I won't spend my money to go back there, tho.

Seems to me that if you are going to have the banquet in Vegas, then the last race should be there too.

Wonder where that would leave Homestead.
You don't want that race in the warmer months.

Never did see the sense in having Vegas and California back to back in such a close market.
