ISC, whose stock is primarily controlled by the NASCAR-owning France family, told financial analysts last week that it plans to decrease capacity at several more racetracks. Other tracks cutting capacity points to at least a 25 percent reduction from 2007.
Company officials said seats without views of pit road don’t deliver as good of an experience. Or seats too far from many of the midway areas or the prerace activities don’t allow fans to take advantage of those amenities.
In order to create urgency and worry among ticket buyers, ISC will cut the number of seats available. They don’t want fans to wait on the weather. They want fans nervous that if they don’t buy early, at best they will end up disappointed with their seat, or at worst, out of luck because the race sold out.

They also pledge to not cut out the "little guy" from attending races. I hope they're being truthful but I wouldn't count on it.

I'm somewhat more partial to the SMI method of painting the seats rather than ISC's newer practice of reducing the number of seats. SMI simply paints the color of fans in the stands to give the illusion of a larger crowd. In the event that this pays off in the long run, and the fans come back, the costs on the construction of increased seating capacity will be greatly reduced. That Bruton, he's a savvy SOB. ISC and the France family, not so much.

MIS has reduced seating from around 137k to 84k over the past few years.

Dang...as you can tell from the article, once renovations are complete DIS will have gone from 168k to 101k in a matter of years. Drastic. Ticket prices will go through the roof for the 500, guaranteed.

Didn't MIS tear down the grand stands in Turn 4? I remember them being there before IIRC

You may have missed this part of ISC's evil attempt at mind control:

Nothing like telling your fans you don't mind getting them caught in the rain to make a few extra bucks. Holy sheet, these idiots are damn arrogant to announce that.
