I wonder if ISC will end up dropping al races at

charlotte
atlanta
sear point
bristol
los vegas
& texas over this law suit?

that's 1/4 of the races on the schedule.

this could affect the 2004 season

also thrown in there is SMI letting TRAC use it's tracks to run races.

That would be bad if they did pull out of NASCAR. We would lose all the good tracks!!
The way it looks now TRAC is not going to be doing much next year. They have not made any announcements in months. No teams are signed up nor citys. Unless they are waiting to announce everything all at once. i am surprised that nothign has happened.

Can someone explain all the initials to me and what this means?

Sorry for being dumb.

SMI (company that owns the tracks eeff listed) is suing ISC (company that owns Nascar) because Texas didn't recieve a second cup date.

Man, I hope it doesn't. Most of my favorite tracks are the ISC tracks. Atlanta, Charlotte and Bristol. I really don't see that happening but who knows.

SMI (as a whole) isn't suing ISC, but some of the MINORITY partners (so minority that Bruton Smith doesn't even know them) are bringing action because of the "no second" date for TMS.

Verbal contracts are binding in the state of Texas.

The Texans have a very good chance of pulling a rabbit out of their hats on this one. The France family wanted big time but they forgot about how big some of the dogs on the porch are.

Look for Texas to get it's 2nd date.

SMI = Speedway Motortsports Inc

ISC = International Speedway Corp

Just for clarity here.

SMI (in the person of a stockholder) is NOT suing ISC. SMI is suing NASCAR

ISC does NOT own NASCAR nor vice versa.

collusion (sp) will be a big part of the Texans case.

For all intents and purposes, the whole dang shooting match belongs to the France family and the Lone Ranger just rode in to town with his faithful companion Tonto.

Collusion will be a part of it. But Monopoly is the major basis of the suit.

Be very careful what we wish for in this suit and its outcome. The ramifications of certain verdicts could have consequences on the sport which might not be what we are looking for at all.

Depends on what you are looking for obviously, but thoughts of IRL and CART aren't out of the question.

Well ya know Scrab.....except for the proliferation of the cookie cutter and parity, I'ld say the France's have done a right good job.

Noticed a "death at the track" page yesterday that focused on Cup and Busch. All things considered, it's not a bad record.

Even ol Dave who hasn't been in the top 25 in years was able to make a good living at it. Kind of a shame that it's gotten so dern expensive to be competitive but the races are still top quality.

Is there room for a irl/cart type split? I think there is. Expecially if the new sanctioning body focuses on fan friendly and easy driver access with slightly lower prices. With the right PR guys and few stars jumping ship the possibillities are endless.

Like I said, matter of perspective.

Don't know if I have enough years left to wait for one or another "half" series to become a top notch series.

Ain't enough sponsor money now for the one, certainly won't be enough for two. Somehow over time the big boys will all move to one or the other. In between ya have half quality and half junk.

When ya put it that way it does seem like if there is a split us old ferts won't be around to see what comes of it.

Still, I wouldn't mind seeing Bill taken down a notch or two if for no other reason than to see the runaway prices get leashed in a bit. Vegas could easily sell out 4 cup races a year with just slightly lower prices.

Busch gets about 75% full (tops) but it's a companion race so that almost doesn't count.....figure maybe 50% on it's own. The Trucks do about 35% tops with a lot of that locals cause of Brendan.

I was really hoping TRAC would take off. I think it might do better as a short track series tho.

I've been to TRAC's website about a dozen times in the last two months........there is nothing there but the same stuff I read early this year. If something does split NASCAR up like IRL/CART then TRAC would be the likely other half, though it appears to be a rather different format all together. I'm still interested it what happens with the series though.....could be fun.

I noticed, California was not listed in the initial post. California Speeway is an ISC track........does that mean we aren't subject to being dropped? Damn, might have to drive 250 miles to Vegas to see a race in 2004 if Cal Speedway gets dropped!:(
