...12 straight wins, the #1 seed, a matchup against a team seeded four spots lower, and a head-to-head regular season win for the Patriots to finally be the favorite in a playoff game - and I bet the margin will get lower than 6 points by gametime. Who wants to bet that the bookies would have made Tennessee the favorite for this game if they had managed to win their division? Steveluvs3, I don't begrudge you for complaining about the Chiefs not getting respect, but New England hasn't gotten an ounce of respect since about 1947 - even when they're just two years removed from a championship. I don't mind the lack of Pro Bowlers - since they're a team in every sense of the word - but notice how it wasn't until the Chiefs stumbled that most sportswriters finally started writing about the Pats - probably because they had no choice. GO NEW ENGLAND!!!!!

A interesting statistic for those of you already penciling New England into the Super Bowl. In the last 10 years only 3 AFC teams seeded #1 made it to the Super Bowl. Denver was the only one to win in 1998. As a matter of fact since they started seeding in 1975, only 14 teams seeded #1 in the AFC have made the Super Bowl, and only 5 won.

Another interesting statistic: in the entire history of the NFL, only 3 teams prior to the Patriots have won 12 straight games in the regular season. All of those teams made the title game, and two of them won it all. Included are those Broncos of 1998, who also - dare I say? - finshed the season 14-2.

And once again, I point you to what I cited in my original post.

I dug this up
Teams with 11 or more wins going into the playoffs
Championship-
11
the '42 Bears No
the '51 Browns No
93 Houston Oilers No

12
the '03 Patriots ?

13 The 34 Bears No

14 the 72 Dolphins Yes

Moreso, the Dolphins season came when there was no parity, when a 10 win team had no shot of missing the playoffs, unlike the 10-6 Dolphins from this year. While I do agree with you that the Patriots were not getting the respect they deserved for awhile this year, I've seen too many people saying there is no way anyone can beat New England in the AFC.
