Well totally nascar just announced that awesome bill will retire after this season, he will run 5 select races next year.
Shame to see him go  to you bill.

No official announcement from Bill or Evernham Motorsports. Totally NASCAR speculated that the announcement would be made this weekend in Atlanta.

:( Hate to see Bill do that. But; tis his decision.
I applaud all he has done and given to racing.
Always liked him.
Just hoping it isn't true.

I put a poll on ANR-AtT about this after it was stated. Go vote and lets see what everyone thinks. Personally I think he will.

I don't know if you watched it today but I swore he said "It's official bill elliott will retire and the end of the 2003 season, bill will race 5 races in the 2004 season, 5 tracks that he dominated at, an official announcement will be made at atlanta"

With this announcement I hope Bill Elliott can win a race this season to close out such a great career.

Watched Totally Nascar and that is what they said. Atleast Bill isn't staying around like DW.

I think the problem with DW was ego or maybe he like racing so much he just can't quit. I guess bill is probably gettin fed up, dodge putttin pressure on evernham for more wins, wantin younger drivers. I hope they get there young gun or guns and they run like crap, or at least worse than bill did.

Well, Atlanta being Bill's "home track" watch out for him to pull a win out of his hat. :D

His Museum in dawsonville is also closing! This makes me sad! AND NO CRY EMOTICON????

Bill is AWESOME. Always has been and always will be. When it's time to step aside, it's time to step aside. I wish him well.

As for DW, he is one of the best the sport has ever seen. That he was saddled up in such poor cars for a few years was a shame imo. The old man just ran 7th against some of the best young talent there is.

In equal cars on any given Sunday in any give stock car series, I would not bet against him.

I'd like to see Bill go out in a winning fashion... just the way he started.

So, does this mean Kahne goes to the 9?

I sure hope not, we need a good driver in a Ford. ;)

I think Kahne needs another year or 2 of Busch racing under his belt before he makes his move to the Cup series.

I see very little reason for anybody young or old to even bother with the Busch. Besides, there ain't no money in Busch.

imo whether a youngin is ready or not can hardly be told from watching them race on television. These kids are climbing in to racecars at 5 and 6 and 7 years old. It's not like they are lacking experience.

And then look around at some of the guys who have been running Cup for years and still can't hardly put a car in the top ten. Nah, if somebody has the magic inside they have the magic inside and if they don't, they don't.

Kahne has'nt really impressed me at all, look he's in a
RYR busch car and really have'nt done anything

Sooooo, how well did Jimmie Johnson do in Busch? RYR just needs a little time to build some chemistry. Can we please go a season without switching personel around!?!?!?!

was jimmie in a hendrick busch car? I can't remember.
All I'm saying is in a RYR car he should be doing better than what he's doin now, especially all the hype he's creating.

He's got RYR power but I believe RYR is a consultant and not the owner. He was the owner though when the team first started out.

I don't think its a RYR car. He was last year and was dropped. This year, I think that they have some assitance from Yates but its not a Yates car. He is a very good driver, it just seems he gets caught up alot in other people's messes towards the end of the race. Put him in good equipment and then we'll see.

o k RYR power, RYR consultants, sometimes I see RYR pitmembers. I bet there's a ton of drivers that wish that they had that kind of help. Soon he'll be in a evernham dodge for a race I think that will tell if he's any good.

Hate to see Bill retire since he has seemed to be running better lately, but at least cutting back to a few races a year will give us a chance to cheer him a while longer. Maybe he saw the differences between Richard and DW running long after they should have got out and Cale and Pearson running limited schedules.

I agree with you Steve. Kasey seems like a nice enough guy,but I just don't see this 'skill' that a lot of folks do. And I watch the young Ford drivers pretty closely. Maybe I am just missing it? A guy I personally would like to see stay with the Blue-Oval is Riggs.

Anyway, add my vote to the group that hates to see Bill go. :(

I started following Bill in 1983, that's 20 years of cheering for the the same driver. Not sure what i am going to do now i know i'd like a Nice Bill Elliot jacket for christmas...lol. But seriously there will be a void there, i always watch how he is doing , even if it is bad i never falter in my enthusiasm to cheer him on. I have no idea who i will find as a favorite now, there is no one that really sticks out. I like Sterling, but he will be retiring in another year or 2. Harvick is cool , so is Newman, but to find some one like Bill.....well those are big shoes to fill. Shame too i think that team is really coming together, last 5 or 6 weeks they really have been consistent and knocking on victory lane. Oh well ....he is a great one and i'm just glad i got to see him race in person a few times. :(

I say he attempts the Daytona 500, Aaron's 499, Coca Cola World 600, Southern 500 and the Ford 400

JJ drove for Herzog Motorsports in Busch. The #92. It was the car Todd Bodine was driving all last year w/o sponsor until they had to stop...no $$$. I don't believe the team has closed up shop though?

They ran the Busch race at Kansas with Jeff Green behind the wheel, but the car was still unsponsored.

From Jayski.com:

Bill Elliott held a press conference Thursday morning in Atlanta and while many in the media assumed he would make an announcement about an impending retirement, he instead announced a line of snack food he's endorsing. He did acknowledge the concern about his racing future. "It has been a pretty good kick," Elliott said. "It's understandable of what the fans want to know, but right now, I don't know so how do you say what you're going to do when you don't know. We'll see. It's been a lot of fun. A lot of different things have been thrown at me. There's still a lot of things on the table as far as next year's concerned. Right now, I just need to decide what Bill Elliott wants to do."

Just saw an Elliot interview on tv this morning. His "I don't know" certainly sounded sincere to me.

Hmmm intersting i know Ray would like to have him around for another year.

Who wouldn't?

He's ever popular, easy with his words, a former champ (ain't nothing like a guaranteed starting spot) and a very seasoned veteran.
