It's Rainin Like Heck

Update us on any change be9.

I went to see some whether sites and it doesn't look good.

All green, even on Monday.

Yeah, just watched the local weather. The front is just coming on shore in West Michigan and it goes all the way back into Wisconson. Doesn't look pretty.

I think I heard on ESPN that there will be an announcement at noon.

Well, if its not today, it certain wont be tomorrow iether. So when?

From Jayski:

Michigan could be pushed into the Chase? A senior NASCAR official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told SPEEDTV.com Sunday morning that if the 3M Performance 400 at Michigan International Speedway is totally rained out this week, it could become the final race in the Chase for the NASCAR Nextel Cup. There is a 100% chance of rain today and an 80% chance of rain tomorrow in Michigan, which means the race could be run on Tuesday. But rain is a possibility then, too. “If we absolutely can’t race in Michigan this week, then we're looking at making it the final race in the Chase,” the NASCAR official told SPEEDTV.com. “If we do that, we’d move everything back to where New Hampshire would be the cutoff race to make the Chase.” Given that such a scenario is something NASCAR views as an absolute last resort, every effort will be made to get the race in this week in Michigan, despite the weather challenges. The current schedule calls for NASCAR’s regular season to end in Richmond Sept. 8 and the 10-race, season-ending Chase for the Nextel Cup to begin Sept. 16. in New Hampshire. The Chase is scheduled to end Nov. 18 in Homestead, Fla.(SPEEDtv.com)(8-19-2007)

that's what they did with NHIS in 01, granted that was an ENTIRELY different circumstance. Heck, bristol and michigan arent that far from eachother, they could run the race wednesday if they moved some of the practice and what not around for bristol. Plus it's 2 different cars so it's not like the transporters in michigan are the ones going to bristol...it's the teams and driver that would have no off time.

any update?

edited to add:
Answered my own question. Race postponed until 12pm ET Monday

Mag I don't know what kind of grade you made in Geography but you better go to map quest and look again. 10 hrs minimum

I have friends from Indiana who are in Michigan and coming strait to Bristol. They left tonight because they didn't think they would get it in this week.

Since they postponed the race and go back there for the last race does the qualifing still stand? I hope so.

well they look halfway close anyways. It was 7 hours from here to missouri...but that's still only 1 day.

the CoT haulers should be coming straight from the shops, and nobody should have a COT for a backup for michigan i'd like to think?

send the CoT haulers out tuesday, run the race wednesday, crews and driver fly/drive over to bristol, and do regular schedule for bristol.

Forecast for today:

Showers and a chance of thunderstorms early in the morning...then numerous showers and a chance of thunderstorms. Highs in the mid 60s. East winds 9 to 14 mph. Chance of rain near 100 percent.

For Tuesday:

Mostly cloudy with a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Highs in the upper 70s. South winds less than 5 mph.

Update from NASCAR:

BROOKLYN, Mich. -- Persistent rain has forced NASCAR officials to push back the start of Monday's rain-delayed 3M Performance 400 at Michigan International Speedway. (Weather from CNN.comexternal link)

The noon ET scheduled start has been pushed back, according to a release issued by the speedway Monday morning. NASCAR and track officials will meet at 11:30 a.m. ET to discuss options and provide another update.

The last Cup race to be postponed on consecutive days was the 1997 Winston 500 at Talladega Superspeedway. Originally scheduled for Sunday, April 27, rain forced postponement until Monday. Then more showers forced NASCAR officials to reschedule the race for the following week, in order to allow teams to free up their haulers for a cross-country trip to Sonoma. The race was finally run on Saturday, May 10 -- Mother's Day weekend.

As of 11:45 a.m. ET, the rain had diminished to light showers. If the race goes green, 100 miles will mark the halfway point -- which makes the race official.

My friend at the track tells us that, as it's been reported before, it's very unlikely that they will race today, tomorrow and quite possibly on Wednesday.

BTW, if they reschedule this race for the last race of the season, the average temperature there in Michigan is 37 degrees. Snow?

ESPN reported that there is some clear sky to the West and might provide enough of a window to start the race.

The jet dryers are out on the track, so hopefully we'll see some racing today.

The article on Nascar.com states that IF they can't run Michigan this week, it will have to be moved to the end of the schedule making it the last race instead of Homestead!

If they think Michigan in August is tough, wait until the projected NOVEMBER 18!

I'd like to see that scoop on the front plowing a foot of snow... :)

I have an idea. Just let them finish by points. They can't race in snow in Nov.:D

They should be racing by tomorrow.

There is a chance of raining by 40%. I'd say that's the better chance they get to running this race. OR Nascar can let them finished by points as tk stated. :D

goodyear wold be the loser in that deal. Them cars would have 90% nose tape and them tires wouldbe a tearin apart.

this is getting pathetic. Raining in michigan, raining in reading, this just isn't autoracings (or ESPN's) weekend.

Too late here... lakes are evaporating and Georgia is 17" below average in rainfall, a record.

I don't think they will race. Last update from ESPN2 Jeff Burton in street clothes and cars in garage. Nascar still trying to dry track like they can still race.
