I've got a gut feeling about DEI.

I'll bet that within 5 years, (really think sooner) that there will be no more DEI teams, it will be Menards.
One reason is because it appears DEI will be phasing out its' own motor program and Menard is building a new facility to be their supplier.

Another is what appears to be total lack of direction within the organization for the future.

Another is the fact John Menard is a shrewd businessman, and he knows a cash cow when he sees one. Besides, he'll want to have a solid team for Paul when he moves to Cup. I can't see John letting Paul drive in the "Big Leagues" for anyone other than "Menard". John don't like to share very well. :D

Why can't Paul start his own team?...... I can't see Jr letting his dad's team go by the wayside. even if it does turn out to be a "not so good team."

maybe menard will partner with Robby Gordon again...although the last partnership didn't fare so well, Robby is more seasoned and has shown that with the right equipment (which cupwise he is still working on, read: the busch series last year) he can win races and run up front) It would help greatly for him to have a second team, given their history, I'd see the partnership being a strong one.

I don't think Jr has a lot to say about it, his stepmother owns it.

Looks like Tony Jr. may not stay.

Waltrip Decision Stuns DEI
Team manager Richie Gilmore and Dale Earnhardt Jr. were both apparently blindsided by Michael Waltrip's decision to leave DEI at the end of the season. Waltrip's move came less than a week after Earnhardt got DEI's first win of the season. Waltrip's crew chief, Tony Eury Jr., is keeping quiet about his own plans. He is not under contract to DEI; the contract he has been offered, according to team sources, gives him the option of becoming crew chief next season for Earnhardt or up-and-coming Martin Truex Jr. Waltrip and Eury have become very tight this season, their first together, and rival teams are interesting in hiring them as a package - particularly enticing if sponsor NAPA comes along as part of the deal.(Journal Now)

From what I've read and the rumors, I think them leaving as a package is a strong possibility.

Bring him over to run a third Yates team. Stick a youngin in the 90 Busch Series Team for a couple of years and have him replace Mikey in 2008-2009 or so. Sounds good to me. In the event that someone tries to start a fight with a Yates team member you will have three 6 foot plus bohemouth drivers to pound on them.

I kinda doubt that Eury will go with Mikey. He is June Bug's cousin after all.

I agree with Eagle, in that DEI may not be around in a few years. Then again, Junior and his siblings may gang up on Teresa and keep it alive.

Let's see now. Jr's having a pretty rough year. Mikey's being let go. DEI dropped the 1 car a couple years ago because of no sponsor. And that means DEI is on it's way out of the Cup series? Makes me wonder why Roger Penske, Robert Yates, Ray Evernham, Richard Childress, even Jack Roush didn't get the same dire predictions of death when they had a season or two of turmoil! :) And my biggest wonder is why is PEI still around? I could understand the doubt if DEI was in a 5 to 10 year slump but, we ain't talking about something like that..........it's just this season. And this season is not quite 2/3 done.

I get so amazed sometimes by all this "insight" in this world of NASCAR Nextel Cup racing. All I see is some folks guessing, speculating, hoping, wishing, and even gloating..........nothing concrete. Nothing based on any facts whatsoever! Believe me, DEI will still be in the Cup series come 2010 (that 5 year prediction deadline).

I think a lot of DEI's sucess was because DEI stood for Dale Earnhardt Inc., not Dale Earnhardt Jr. Inc.
DEI is going downhill because there is no more DE in DEI.

d.e.i will always be in nascar cause Jr. will never leave and he will make sure that it stays open

I think the title of this thread, "I've got a gut feeling about DEI." states the fact that I am speculating. I never claimed to have special insight or hidden facts, or anything concrete.
It's just as I stated, by observing certain things that are happening like them making a deal with Menard for him to build a big engine mfg. facility to build their (DEI) engines. (just think next year they could be running as good as Robby Gordon. :) ) And knowing Menards past history when it comes to investments I put forth "MY" gut feeling.
Having stated in the title that it WAS speculation, you didn't have to read it
I would like to apologize, because I read the rules to the board, but I must have missed the one about not being allowed to have an opinion, or being able to speculate if it differed from yours.
:lurk:

Wishing for something does not make it so. Any one organizition could fold tomorrow or the next day.

Maybe Martha Stewart should take over DEI, give everyone a make-over and pass out cookies on pit road before the race. But me just stating that isn't going to make it happen - I think.
