Jamie Mac?

I've often wondered if Jamie Mac would be contender for a title if he was driving for Henderick or JGR? I think he's a very likable guy and is always fast on the road courses.. Seems to be very talented but what is it that's stopping him from being a chase contender? Every time I see that Jamie has a fast car I find myself always pulling for the guy, I'd just like too see it more often?

Does anyone think that Jamie will ever move to a different organization/team?

Probably won't but he's looking good this year. Maybe this trend will continue for him with things kept in place?

I'm the wrong person to ask. I thought Matt Kenseth would be very lucky to get one win last year after changing teams and he got 7.

I would like to see him at HMS or JGR and yes I think he has the right stuff.

I also believe Gannassi has stepped up his program this year and with Larson there now, I think Jamie may be pushing a little harder this season.

At the moment he's a top-12 driver whose results don't reflect performance. He's right up there with Kahne in the running for driver with the worst luck - he was running in the top 10 at Bristol, Martinsville, and now Kentucky before getting taken out in incidents which weren't his doing.

And he was running 3rd at Kansas and blew a motor

Jamie is the most underrated driver in the sport IMO. He has never been with a top organization unless you count driving for Roush when they had 5 teams. He's good at every type of track and is the only driver who's had any semblance of success at EGR. If he drove for one of the top teams I think he'd be another Logano/Bowyer type and win a race or two a year and make the chase. His biggest hindrance is his horrid luck and the fact he drives for a second rate team

True, but he was with Roush back when they were dominant. I do see him like another Logano in a way, but in that he's better off driving for a smaller team with a teammate that he can actually work with than a bigger one where he'll kind of get lost in the shuffle. Joey drove for the dominant JGR but didn't start coming into his own until he joined up with Brad at Penske.

I've always liked Jamie Mac. Anybody that just straight up dislikes him probably doesn't have a soul. He was my favorite before I found myself rooting for Junior.

I picked Mac to finish 7th or better in the bold prediction thread but I didn't think it was that bold when they expanded the chase count (he finished 15th last year). But he hasn't been doing as well as I thought he would this year. He has shown he can be competitive at times but things have been inconsistent for a variety of reasons. He's 21st in the points so my bold prediction is bolder now.

I'm biased because Jamie is my boy, but I absolutely believe he is talented enough to compete for a title. He is well rounded in every aspect of the sport and just needs a little luck. The guy always seems to get taken out when he's got it going well. If he could just be more consistent and put together a string of finishes the 1 car would be in the Chase. He will pick up a win this year as Ganassi has stepped up their program big time. I'd love to see Jamie in a top ride I think he's excel.

I think Jamie is very underrated when he is doing the sponsor plugs . He comes across very well IMO ( very sincere ) . If I were looking for a driver/spokesperson , he would have to be near the top on my list.

He's never had a better chance of making the chase than he does this year. Simply winning will likely put him in, which would be great!

Always been a big fan. He raced for Roush but that was a second rate team, let's be honest. I'd love to see him in a JGR or RH or maybe an SHR car..

I don't get all the jamie is underrated posts. I think the opposite, I think he is overrated. He has never been a consistent front runner. Its either really good or terrible. To say he hasn't been in good equipment is a joke. chips cars are way better than most people think. look at the parade of drivers who had success and left chip for other teams. NONE of them did anything when they left. Jmac was pretty much let go at roush and that was when roush was a much better team with the other guys winning races all the time. Frankly at roush he wasn't much better than david ragan. Another guy is casey mears what happened to him once he left chips cars, it actually meant the end of him being in competitive cars because he was exposed as an average driver at best. Same thing with reed sorenson. jmac isn't going to set the world on fire and he is never going to win a title or even be in the hunt for one. he just doesn't have it like that. I know people bash chips cars and teams but honestly who has he really ever had that was that great driving his cars?? juan could have won 3 races last year if it weren't for cautions and other misfortune. Juan gave away 2 brickyards. chips cars can and do run well.

Yeah I've never understood why Ganassi gets so much hate on this forum. I've seen people say their cars have trouble fighting for top 30s... what a bunch of BS. They have always been competitive, just not "top tier" like HMS, JGR, Roush, etc. I'm sure some years were better than others, but for the most part their equipment has been plenty capable of running up front. Hell, Ganassi nearly won the championship his first year in the sport with Sterling Marlin. How many good drivers have raced for him? Marlin, JMac, and now Larson. When your team consists of Scott Pruett, David Stremme and JPM, you're not going to be winning much.

I really like McMurray though. It's hard not to like him.

i agree 100%...never really heard any fans trashing him, and when he wins, nobody hates it, and all the other drivers seem like they are okay with him winning, and really mean it.

Nah man, Roush was one of the top teams when he was there. They even swapped whatever crew chief he originally had when he went over there for Bob Osborne at one point, which didn't really help him or Carl Edwards IMO. He did win a couple of plate races, but overall, he wasn't very competitive there.

I maintain that he's one of those drivers that is better off with a smaller team. I remember seeing a little video package they did with him after he went back to Ganassi, and he seemed pretty happy to be back. He said that the culture at Roush was sterile and cold, because they were such a big organization and everything was just about winning and nothing else. At Ganassi, it was more like a family-type atmosphere because they were smaller and he already knew everybody there. When he came back, he said it felt like he never left. I've also read a couple of articles where he and Felix Sabates alluded to the fact that he was the odd man out at Roush and gets treated better (and is therefore obviously happier) at Ganassi.

Given that information, I'm not so sure he would do any better if he were to go back to a big powerhouse team like JGR or HMS. Granted, every organization is different, but I think he's probably content to stay put for the time being.

it was kinda funny, remember Chip saying he was going to hold Jamie to his contract, and Jamie went ahead and signed one with Roush, while still under contract to Chip, and Chip let him go during the season. he was suppose to go to the 6 car but Mark changed his mind.
