I was browsing our library's list of music recordings last week and found 2 that I requested. I picked up the CD's yesterday. They are titled: Kid Ory's Creole Jazz Band and Ory's Creole Trombone.
The one CD has a song on it that was the first recording ever by a black band. Kid Ory at one time employed Louis Armstrong and the recording has some songs that are considered the best jazz ever played.

Now, the rest of the story. On the cover of the CD there is a label that these recordings were donated to the library by Carter Beauford and the Dave Matthews band. Carter is the drummer with Dave Matthews and the band resides here. These CD's were part of his personal collection.

Not sure I understand the question. Kid Ory played jazz on a trombone. One of his famous songs was "Muskrat Ramble. His album "Ory's Creole Trombone" had 4 tracks on it with Louis Armstrong & His Hot Five and some think it was the best jazz ever recorded. Kid Ory also was the first black band ever recorded. I personally like his album "Creole Jazz Band.

Jazz is like every other kind of music with different styles. But I guess if this was something other than mainline jazz, it would have been labled so. I'll have to see if I can find some of this and see how it sounds. I'm a wild jazz fan. :)

Okay, I just aquired a few of his songs and now I have an idea of his style of music. Very old style (rag) and though that's not my bag, as we used to say, it's not all that bad.

I like jazz quite a bit myself. I'm more of a Return To Forever, Al DeMeola kind of a guy I guess.
