Jeff Burton may run only 14 races in 2004

Jeff Burton's unsponsored No. 99 is committed to running at least 14 races in the Nextel Cup series in 2004, but Roush Racing president Geoff Smith said Wednesday there is a chance it might only be 14.

Burton and Roush said last week that Burton would return to the team for next year, with or without sponsorship. Previous backer Citgo announced in June it would not be back after this season.

"We've got a business plan for 14," Smith said. "That's without even having started the season. Our plan is to run all 36. That's what we're designed to go run. But I don't want to unequivocally say that nothing is going to interrupt that. As we add sponsorship, it automatically adds races. We have to keep that one open."

I think maybe Jeff is being too loyal to Jack. He could have driven full season with another team. He could have done wonders for that 30 car IMO.

I think he should have jumped ship when he had the chance. But now all the good teams are gone. I would like to have seen him in the 30. :(

Its ironic, Jeff Burton and the 99 were Jack Roush's best team coming into 2002, then when the 17 and 97 started winning races and being championship contenders, I guess the 99 was kicked back to the end of the checklist at Roush Racing. Amazing what can change in a single year. Unfortunate for Jeff and the crew.

I think a lot had to do with Frankie Stoddard...before & after he left. The #99 team hasn't had a chance to turn it around with Paul Andrews yet.

This royally stinks!!!!! I just can't help but feel Jeff's loyalty is a bit misplaced.
Unless, of course, this is what he(Jeff) wants. ????????

Here is who'd I'd like to see sponsor the 99 team. Never heard of this beer till till I was intoduced to it at a euchre tournament in Indianapolis by a guy from Buffalo,NY. Damn good beer.!

AYE Matey !!!!!!

'Tis a fact !!! That LaBatt's Blue is a damn good beer, as is Molson's Golden Ale.
Especially at six a.m. while sitting in a fishing bost with a good friend and trying to land one whopper of a pike from the depths of Big Rideau Lake near Newboro, Ontario, Canada.

Damn !!!! I'm thirsty !!!!!!

Ah!!!!! The memory from a span of several years thirty-five years ago makes me mouth water. And the thought of playing poker every night until the sun came up then going fishing. They were some good years in there along with the good beer.

I doubt Labatt Blue would be on the 99, Smirnoff Ice is on the 17 already, but it would be nice.
