Jeff Burton

Mmmm maybe . But I've yet to see anything about Vickers getting medical clearance to return. MWR has to keep a good driver on standby.

Good point Ted. Not much news coming out about Vickers, but his career could be on very shaky ground considering the serious nature of his problems and the fact that they are reoccurring.

Jeff Burton is a MUCH BETTER option than Elliot Sadler IMO. Good for Jeff, it would be nice to see him pick up some more sponsorship and run a bunch of races for MWR.

Yep. It's hard for sponsors and teams to invest in a driver who has a history of medical problems. It's no knock on Vickers of course as it's not his fault.

As far as Burton goes, I figured he would end up somewhere full time. I guess something is better than nothing.

Ugh.

Burton deserves better than a part-time ride at MWR.

As long as Vickers is getting blood clots and is on thinners, he won't race. I had a clot on my lung and it's scary. Right now, he needs to concentrate 100% on his health and not on racing.

I think its win win for both. He most likely will drive more than the scheduled amount. Also gives him some free time to see his family. If only" Wurd" ( pronounced WARD) would come back, Loved to listen to his interviews.

Bummer, now I have to root for an MWR car. It should be better than RCR stuff though. Hopefully he has some good runs before he retires.

I'm not really surprised. There have been rumors about him going to MWR for almost 2 months now.

what's to wonder about? they were team mates before. It's not like ether one of them is going to sit the world on fire and win the championship.

I'm interested in most of the drivers . You probably find that a bit odd . That's what I am . A bit odd.

I like Burton, but reality is he hasn't been very competitive for the last 5 or 6 years. He never fully understood the CoT, and he'll never get the Gen6 well enough to compete for a championship.

Testing next week in Charlotte for all teams in NASCAR. MWR needed a butt in the seat and fast. Who knows if Vickers will be available for 2014 at all? Burton seems to be a pretty good option when you consider what is available for MWR to choose from. Burton will continue to fille the Mark Martin type role until his move into the television booth in 2015 for NBC.

really?!?! I don't think so, I was really surprised he lasted this long. he is just not competitive anymore. at some point the nice guy thing runs out and you have to be able to run the car hard. this is a good deal for jeff, it will also be interesting to see his insights in the TV booth. I wouldn't mind seeing jeff run some truck races.

I always thought JB would end up working for nascar in some capacity when his driving career ended.

I'm trying to remember retired drivers that Nascar has hired recently . I recall Brett Bodine and Chad Little . Can someone think of some others ?

Brett Bodine landed the dream job in nascar as far as I'm concerned. Didn't know Chad Little worked for nascar. What was/is his job?

The only other one I can think of recently was Robin Pemberton. I know he wasn't a driver, but he was a crew chief. Close enough? lol

The reason I thought JB would end up working for nascar was that several years ago he seemed to be the unofficial driver spokesman for safety issues in the Cup series. Plus all that stuff about him being the mayor of the garage area.

Chad is currently director of the truck series.
