Refresh your memory folks.

This is the 'other' Jeff.

Burton was a threat to win most races as recently as a couple of years ago.The hardest charger in the field and looked like a likely bet to challenge Jeff G.for dominant circuit driver.

Charging from the back to the front, leading every lap...these were Burton's trademarks.

But now Stoddard is gone and the racing fates have seemingly moved on...leaving the 99 to also-ran status. The TV guide racing review stated bluntly that a win in the near future is now 'neccesary' for this team. That may be a bit of a stretch, imo, but for sure it is time to pull out all the stops.

What do you folks see as the problem/remedy for this car and team? One possibility might be to split Martin/Burton and house either with Kenseth/Busch.....as strange as that would have seemed two years ago.

Any opinions?

man it's really amazing that the Citgo team has had the problems qualifying and racing for the win. You could really see when Frankie and someone in the Rousch organization started having problems before Frankie left. IMO, the only fix for Burton is for DEI or RCR put him in a CHEVY!!!! lmao.

That was for you 97. :D :D

I think jeff got accustomed to winning and when he struggled a bit he blamed frankie and made him the scapegoat...they weren't winning, but weren't runnin awful either....I think Frankie coulda got them straightened out faster/better then andrews is right now.....

Citgo jinx

Wood Bros. had Citgo as a sponsor for a long time yea they won a few with it then were dry for years the first year they change to motorcraft WIN at BMS

now the 99 has it yea a couple of wins then dry

i know this sounds nuts but just humor me please

Maybe someday I'll discover what causes the magic to fade for some Winston cup teams, a magic that seems at some point to abandon all of them. The very next day after that disovery, I'll be a millionaire many times over.

Frank and Jeff went into a fade, for whatever reason. Frank has since moved on to Bill Davis racing where his forunes seemed to have improved not at all. Be that as it may, the magic was obvioulsy gone from the Jeff/Frank combination so a change was made and under those circumstances is justified, as yet the magic still eludes the #99 team. Paul Andrews may bring the team around, but another change may just as likely occur. The era of waiting years for a team to gel have passed.

Jeff comes across as one the most cerebral drivers on the circuit, the trick may finally emerge as finding a crew boss who will counter that with a more down and dirty approach to the game. Roush Racing can supply the engineering, so that is not an issue. Maybe what Jeff needs is a crew chief with more fire, such as a Mike McSwain, Larry McReynolds, or Todd Parrott type personality. If were running the train that is what I would look for........

Man would I love to see that. RCR especially would be nice.

J burt can drive a car as seen in his Busch ride. Maybe they need to bring a little of that up to Cup.

You nailed it right on the head hooty. Jeff's a primidonna to the highest power.

Gotta admit I'm a Jeff Gordon fan all the way, but I've always liked the Burton brothers too. Jeff Burton's struggles really boggle the mind, IMO. He used to contend with Earnhardt and Gordon. In fact the points came down to those three one year I do believe. If it wouldn't have been for Jeff Gordon, Jeff Burton would have about 12 more victories and possibly a championship or two. But I don't know what's going on now. He carried Roush through some very, very lean years - no two ways about it. And now he's stuck mid-pack. Maybe he doesn't like the new technology. Or maybe the chemistry is gone. Personally I think he should move on. I think his loyalty to Roush is a one-way street. With Busch and Kenseth, Jack seems to have forgotten who used to represent his team so well week-in and week-out.

Burton would look great in a Chevy (how about that 1 car; or the 5 car in a few years?). If it ever happens I'll be the first in line to buy the die-casts and t-shirts. :)

Sometimes the chemistry leaves. That might have happen. J. Burton is a good driver. Maybe he should move on to another team. I think the 1 car will be open at the end of the season. That will be a good team. :D

I think Jeff would do well in the 1 team... it owuld be nice to see him up in the front running for a win again..

Yes it would!!! :)

jeff burtons consistansy went away after busch & kenseth started to show that they where the wave of the future and evil jack put all of his effort in them, instead of the two guys that carried his team on their shoulders for so many years. now jeff's brother wins more race then he dose.
i wouldn't mind seeing jeff in RCR or DEI.
p.s. what happend to exide batteries?
