Jeff Gordon, His Greatest Hits -

BRISTOL, AUGUST 1993 – Gordon unted Rick Wilson into the wall.

DAYTONA 500, 1994 - Hooked Todd Bodine head on into the wall in Chicken Bone Alley (the final quarter of backstretch); the wreck gobbled up five cars total.

WINSTON 500, 1994 - Went three wide in the trioval and crowded Greg Sacks into Todd Bodine; eleven cars were wrecked and Mark Martin drilled two guardrails and a catchfence.

DIEHARD 500, 1995 - Hooked Ken Schrader into a sickening tumble down the backstretch; eleven cars destroyed.

WINSTON 500, 1996 - Hung Mark Martin into the wall exiting the trioval; both spun and fourteen cars crashed; Ricky Craven ripped open the fencing atop Turn One and was hit by a spinning Elton Sawyer.

IROC, CHARLOTTE, 1996 - Hooked Steve Kinser; both spun, Kinser T-boned in six-car melee.

DAYTONA 500, 1997 - Crowded Dale Earnhardt into wall entering the backstretch; Earnhardt spun into Ernie Irvan and Dale Jarrett and flipped; Irvan's hood was disloged and injured three spectators.

PONTIAC 400, 1997 - Sideswiped Ernie Irvan under yellow; Irvan blew a tire after the ensuing restart.

WATKINS GLEN, 1997 - Jumped the final two restarts and received no penalty.
Food City 500, Bristol, 1997- Gordon knocks Wallace up the track in the last turn, sneaks by to take the win.

SOUTHERN 500, 1997 - Gordon is leading late, going for the $1 million bonus. Jeff Burton pulls inside of Gordon coming to the white flag. Gordon body slams Burton, who in turn loses momentum and the race. Gordon rationalizes his move, noting he was going for $1 million so it was okay.

DIEHARD 500, 1997 - Halfway down the backstretch, Gordon swerved down two lanes and bodyslammed John Andretti; he then spun into Dale Earnhardt and Sterling Marlin, wiping out 21 cars. Gordon claimed the left rear tire blew to start the incident, though such an incident on a straightaway has never caused cars to change lanes before; video replays are inconclusive. Sterling Marlin disputed Gordon's account. Next day Evernham says tire did not blow.

ATLANTA, NOVEMBER 1997 - Coming out of the garage, Gordon lost control and blindsided the parked Pontiac of Bobby Hamilton.

IROC, DAYTONA, 1998 - Field was three wide for second. Gordon hooked Tom Kendall into Randy LaJoie and the wall. He then jumped the final restart and passed on the left before the stripe to win.

TEXAS 500, 1998 - Shoved Rick Mast and John Andretti into the first turn wall, detonating a ten-car melee.

NAPA 500, 1998 - Slammed Morgan Shepherd into first turn wall when he could have passed him cleanly.

IROC, DAYTONA, 1999 - Punted Rusty Wallace into Dale Earnhardt Junior and Eddie Cheever. Wreck also involved Jeff Burton.

JIFFY LUBE 300, 1999 - Sideswiped Rusty Wallace into fourth turn wall. He then punted Dale Jarrett throughout the final lap to gain and finish in third position, leading to the now-famous garage confrontation afterward.

CHEVROLET 400, 2000 - Used a magnesium intake manifold won the race, was penalised 100 points and $25,000 but keept the win. Also screwed Shari Robertson out of 1 million bucks. (No Bull winner if Dale Earnhardt would of won finished 2nd)

SHARPIE 500, 2002 - Rams race leader Rusty Wallace in the rear three times, turning him sideways, to go on and thank God in victory lane.

POP SECRET 400, 2002, Jeff Gordon runs over Elliott pit crew members to finish 5th in race.

THE WINSON ALLSTARs, 2003 – You got it, Gordon punts and spins Sterling Marlin.

MBNA ARMED FORCES FAMILY 400, 2003, Marlin had given Gordon considerable room as their top-five-running cars exited the second turn on the high-banked Dover oval. But Gordon's Chevrolet veered and smacked into Marlin's Dodge taking him out of contention for the 2nd time in three weeks!

I’m sure there are others and will be more. The list is a work in progress.

LMAO!

Wow! 22 wrecks in 10 years! Oh my God!

Also, this is so obviously wriiten by an ABGer, but even if every wreck was 100% his fault, that is JUST 22 wrecks in 10 years. Do the math. That's 2 wrecks per year or 1 wreck every 16 races! In the same time period, he won 4 Championships and 62 races! Not counting the Winston and Iroc, like they are stated above in his wreck quota. And some of those listed weren't even wrecks (sideswiped?or punted?) or even during a race (Atlanta 97). Please, this is really reaching.

So, I say that record above would stand up well with Rusty's, Earnhardt's, Jarrett's etc. Also, I am sure that Gordon has been wrecked at least 22 times during that same time period, but wait, oh that's okay!

I would bet that whoever wrote this, his favorite driver has taken out cars at a higher rate than Gordon's average over the 10 year period! :p

With all respect I have a question for Jeff Gordon fans.I will stress this is not a bash, just a question.

Why is it anyone that points out a fact regarding NASCAR'S former golden boy is neccesarily an 'ABGer?'

Just seems to be a blanket term to cover anyone that has the unmitigated gall to dare suggest anything negative against the driver.

Another myth to dispel is this as well:

Not everyone who dislikes Gordon as a driver is 'jealous' of him. This silly crap has been shoved on Non-Gordon fans from the motorsports press for years.'Either you like him or you are jealous of him.'Well,no,Bones,we arent really.Thank you and SCR for spreading this bs.

As for 22 wrecks in ten years?Still not a stat to be proud of from a man that watched tape after tape of Mark Martin in order to learn Mark's style of racing.Mark should still be your aspiration J.G....4 titles or 40 titles.

So all you hyper-sensitive Gordon fans just relax.About the only thing I ever liked about Jeff was the 'cleaner-than-Earnhardt' driving style he seemed to have. And now he denies ever having been a 'clean' driver!High irony.

It's ok to state facts, but when it is interjected with opinion, it can be challenged.

I never said anything about who posted this or if anyone was jealous. Look how the descriptions are written.

Never said having 22 wrecks was something to be proud of, but it is a far cry from the worst over that same time frame. And even all of those listed did not result in wrecks.

Watched a tape of Martin? Who cares? I am sure he watched tapes of all drivers and you are just assuming it was to learn his style, maybe it was to see why he has never won a championship. I think Mark would aspire to attain Gordon's success, not the other way around.

Agreed,a forum of opinions.Some differing ones.Keeps it interesting. :)

I wasn't blaming you personally for the 'like him or jealous' quote,Gordon Fan.Bones Boucier of SCR magazine made that statement ten years ago.No reference at all to you was meant or implied.

And Gordon himself, also in SCR magazine, states that Mark Martin is the stock car driver he most patterned his driving style after. His words. Not conjecture.

Those two statements are facts not opinions.

But if you want my opinion, based on nothing more than just opinion,I can give that too.

I personally wouldn't swap Mark Martin's helmet for a truckload of Jeff Gordons.THATS opinion.

I like Mark Martin and respect him tremendously, both as a driver and as a recovering alcoholic. But, his record does pale in comparison to Jeff Gordon's.

True enough. But history isn't done yet.Darrell Waltrip took a once awesome resume and stayed well past his time. One win 15 races in isnt' any better than Ricky Craven this year.Every race he doesnt win brings Jeff's 'awesome resume a little more down to earth. And some of the new guys out there now could conceivably surpass him.

And I'm not saying Jeff is past his time or wont win again,I'm just saying a few more seasons like the last couple win-wise and some of these guys might have a record that makes Gordon's look pale by comparision.I wouldn't LMFA competely O just yet.

Jeff Gordon, His Greatest Hits -......................................................................................................................................

Just curious Rustyfan4ever, but who compiled this list ??? Because whoever did so failed to take into consideration the screwups made by every driver who ever raced on the WCS tour.

The following examples are not to single out any one driver but are intended to prove every Winston Cup Champion and driver has committed thier share of mistakes and most of the "tenth on back" racers, a lot more. There are no exceptions.

If Rusty never turned or bumped anyone out of the way to win a million bucks or go for the win, it would be different, but sorry to say, it isn't. Do you recall the infamous 1988(?) Winston when Rusty turned Darrell for the win ??
OR the Winston where Earnhardt jumped the start and there was no penalty??
OR, the time at Talledega when Ernie Irvan caused a mulit-car wreck in which Kyle Petty severely broke his leg ??
OR the wreck at Pocono that almost cost Bobby Allison his life ??
OR the accident on pit road when Mike Ritch lost his life?
No need to mention driver names in these two scenarios as they live with the sad memory of the accidents.
OR any one of several drivers within the past three years who have hit a pit crew member from thier own or someone else's team ??
HOW ABOUT the time Earnhardt took out Mark Martin in practice at Michigan??
OR when Jeff Burton caused a multi- car wreck during practice at Daytona??
OR another incident just this year when a car was "blindsided" in the garage area??
Jeff Gordon was not the cause of any of these incidents yet the drivers involved were not mentioned in the list.
And that is why I don't understand your point.
And your point is ???

I think we should do a list like this for the 'great one'....Todd Bodine!
Perhaps a racing forum hall of shame.

Leave Todd alone

Put One-whack Jack Sprague at the head of the list in the 'hall of shame'.Never have I seen a less deserving driver in the WC ranks that Jack.
