Jeff Gordon (which race)

I was just thinking back and remember a race where the car was terrible and Jeff was off pace. Knowing that the track is a chase track, they headed to the garage to change setup and treated the rest of the race as a test. I believe it was spring at Texas, but not sure. (Possibly in 2008) does anyone else remember this?

Good question Jaydazell , welcome to the forum . It seems like everyone on here is a Jeff Gordon fan this week . Someone will have the answer to your question .

Yes, we all know that you're a

Big ole closet Kenseth fan.
I really don't mind Kenseth... always liked him. I went through a little phase where I was all "that dick took Joeys job and showed him up" lol... but Im over it. He's doing great and so is Joey...I liked him before and I like him now. Of all the guys in JGR equipment Id rather he take it... however, in direct opposition to the post you replied to... I'd rather Gordon take it out of the guys who still have a shot.

There are many drivers I like besides Joey.. Joeys just my main driver. I also root for Clint Bowyer, Carl Edwards, Matt Kenseth, Mark Martin, Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch, Greg Biffle, Jamie Mac.. just to name a few.. but when it comes down to it Im a Joey fan.

I suppose if Kenseth doesn't win it, it'd be cool to see Gordo take another title.

I actually find it quit fascinating.. the way that a guy can drive for one organization for so long (Matt/Roush .. Joey/Gibbs) and then do so much better in a different one. It just shows that a lot of the success that can be achieved in this sport is based on the way a team works together. People put so much emphasis on drivers because they're the ones we see.. but without a good team and a good relationship, understanding and communication.. they've got nothing. The way the competition is so close right now it really comes down to that more than anything. Most of these guys have the same shot each week.. as drivers, they're pretty evenly matched in talent, that's why they're here in the first place. Its the way that the cars are setup to the driving style of the driver and how well his team can give him that based on what information they're given fro the driver. I just find it fascinating really.. Matt was always a top 10 driver easy.. but he was more of a run quiet aroun d the top 10 and get closer to the front near the end.. he was a quiet closer. Now he's up there leading more laps than ever and winning at tracks he never thought he would. Then you got Joey who did next to nothing in Gibbs equipment, flashes of what could be greatness but nothing solid and consistent enough to be considered that. He moves over to Penske and has the best year of his career, just like Matt. at one point earning more points than any other driver over the 6 races leading up to the chase..Yeah its as good as what Kenseth has done this year but the experience level is over 10 years difference. For a while I never really expected too much from either of these guys this season other than a warm up year with a new team. They've both done great. Now I know there's gona be someone who gona come and say Joey sucks because of how well Matt is doing but that's inevitable as soon as the word Joey is typed lol.. seriously though, they're both having career seasons. Just makes you wonder what could have been had they found their respective teams earlier?

I don't imagine that too many expected either driver to do as well as they have in their first year with new organizations.

Welcome to the forum dude. I think I know which one youre talking about. The one where he spun coming off of four, saved it and slid straight into the pits?

I am pretty sure that was Texas. I can't remember which year but 2006,7 or 8 seems about right.

My wife and I were in the stands and I heard it on the scanner, pissed me off when I heard that but his car was total garbage from the time they unloaded it.

That was it, I remember it well.

I agree , those two were big exceptions to the norm . Then , look at Brad , and to a lesser extent ,the Gibbs drivers , who should have experienced a net gain by adding a quality teammate .

Yep, same weekend where Michael Mcdowell took a wild tumble at qual.

Thanks for digging that up! I thought it was Texas, but wasn't sure. I'll never forget mcdowells wreck though. I was shocked that he walked away, as I think most were
I'm surprised he kept racing after that. If that was me Ida been like "ha adios bitches"

****** stupid.

All ****** year, anything that could go wrong does go ****** wrong.

Stupid as ****. Disgusts me that **** like this never ****** happens to Johnson. Luckiest ****** in the ****** series. I hope Kenseth ****** destroys him in the final two races.

Did you miss the first half of Gordon's career? If his luck went up for auction, Richard Petty would have come out of retirement to race again. He had another one of his snakebitten season but they got it together when it counted. He had a very strong car but he just needed longer runs. Mechanical failures are outta the driver's control bud, we'll take the level of performance we showed in the final half of the season into 2014 and Gordon will make his mark. Refuse to lose

Now, compare to that guy, how do I look after a bad Gordon race?

Cot damn, beantown went psycho there. :D

Every driver has their nemesis track. This one is by far Gordon's worst.

How he managed to win here in 09 (His only of the season btw) defies logic.

Be kind of adding insult to injury to Jeff , considering he owns half of the 48 car .
