Per Jeff Green's website, Jeffgreen.com. Jeff seemed to mesh well with the #43 team and they ran very well at times. I'm looking forward to a full season of Jeff driving the car and I think he can get that team back to being competitive. At this point it doesn't sound very good for Steve getting a Cup ride, so it looks like Jeff may be my main guy in 2004.

Here's the official press release...

LEVEL CROSS, N.C. – Picking up where he left off at the end of 2003, Jeff Green will drive the #43 Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge in 2004 for Petty Enterprises. Kyle Petty, CEO of Petty Enterprises, made the announcement today.

The 41-year-old Green, a native of Owensboro, Ky., first climbed behind the wheel of the Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge at the tough one-mile Dover (Del.) International Speedway, and knocked down a 16th-place finish. The fact he and the ‘Helping Hands’ crew were able to come together so quickly was not lost on Petty Enterprises, or the rest of the Winston Cup garage.

Green finished the season with Petty Enterprises, developing a rapport with crew chief Gary Putnam and the rest of the team, and helping develop strong morale.

“We just kind of clicked,” Green said. “Gary and those guys have a lot of knowledge and experience, and we communicated well from the very beginning. Having those races together this past season should help us a lot as we start 2004. I am excited to be part of Petty Enterprises, to drive the famous number 43, but most of all, to be working with some very talented people.”

Petty said he was excited as well.

“As Jeff spent more time in the car, and as he and Gary and the Cheerios guys worked together, it started to become pretty obvious he was the best choice we could make for a driver,” Petty said. “He knows how to win races and he knows how to win championships. We feel we can give him the people and equipment he needs to be successful, and we’re looking forward to a great relationship.”

“We are thrilled with Petty Enterprises’ decision to put Jeff Green behind the wheel of the #43 in 2004,” said Laurie Greeno, Vice President of Motorsports for General Mills. “We are excited to work with Jeff and are confident that he’ll be a good ambassador for Cheerios, Betty Crocker and other great General Mills brands featured on the #43 throughout the year.”

Green goes into the 2004 season-opening Daytona 500 as the defending pole award winner, and is eligible to compete in the Bud Shootout of pole winners from the 2003 season. He has completed two full seasons of NASCAR Cup racing, notching four top-five and 10 top-10 finishes over the past two years, as well as winning $5.2 million.

If Jeff wants to race in the Bud Shootout he'll have to drive for somebody else, because the Petty cars don't have the Bud decal on their car.

Going strictly on recent performance, I don't think he'll have too many worries about having a ride for the Bud Shootout after this next one.

Parkfan I may be joining you, that was the only ride left for JB in Nextel Cup! I am glad Green got it because IMO I think he will do more at PE than Johnny would. JB needs a soild team!

Green will be My #3 guy in Nextel IF JB does not find a ride. That would be Kyle, Mikey then Jeff. But I will always be a JB fan even if he is only running his late model in Berlin

Green may do about as good as anybody else did in that car. If he plans on winning a race I don't think he will do it at PE.

Steve has the inside track on the #23, but there's no way they'll get a sponsor if the #1 or #99 can't. There aren't even that many rides open in the Busch Series or Truck Series at this time. Steve may not have a ride period in 2004, I think Benson could end up with PPC if they find a sponsor. Do you know of any Petty Enterprises message boards? I've been to the Fans for Petty Enterprises® Message Board, but figure there must be more.
