Nadeau leaves hospital for rehab center

May 27, 2003

RICHMOND, Va. -- Winston Cup driver Jerry Nadeau was released from the hospital and moved to a rehabilitation center, nearly a month after crashing during practice at Richmond International Raceway.

Nadeau left the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center on Monday and was moved to the Charlotte Institute of Rehabilitation in Charlotte, N.C. Doctors said Nadeau was improving daily and "on an excellent recovery path," according to a news release Tuesday.

Nadeau sustained a head injury, a fractured shoulder blade and lung and rib injuries when his car slammed driver's side first into a wall May 2. He was upgraded to fair condition May 8 and regained full consciousness last week.

That is awsome news!!!!! I can't belive how fast he is improving! Maybe he will be back for the 2004 Daytona 500 or sooner?!

That's great to hear. Hope the rest of his recovery moves along a smooth path.

I've been following this for a while now and I'm glad that he's finally out, I also heard that now he is responsive and will even talk to people! I was worried when he could talk for a while.. :bounce:

That is great to hear. Hope he don't try to come back to fast.

As I have stated before. I just hope he gets better, racing again is a very distant second to his future health. This is really great to hear that he is getting on to his next phase. :salute:

This is good news.

But he's NOT going anywhere quickly. His brain was swollen for over 2 weeks. That's alot of damage. It will take it's toll. I just hope he progresses without the typical complications of such a brain injury. He has alot of rehab to go through. Time will tell if he will be back to racing.
