RICHMOND, Va. - Winston Cup driver Jerry Nadeau, critically injured Friday during a crash during practice at Richmond International Raceway, remains in critical condition at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center and is being treated for head, lung and rib injuries.

Nadeau has been moved to his own room, though still in the intensive care unit.

NASCAR Busch Series regular Jason Keller will substitute for Nadeau in tonight's Pontiac Excitement 400 at RIR, marking his first career Winston Cup Series start.

"While our thoughts are with Jerry during his recovery, we also want to express our appreciation to Jason for filling in on a short notice," said Jay Frye, CEO/general manager of MB2/MBV Motorsports. "Jason has proved himself in the Busch Series and we know he can get the job done."

Keller, 33, is in his 10th Busch Series season and currently ranks sixth in the series point standings. He finished second to Greg Biffle in 2002.

Its not good news but its better than it could have been.
Get well soon Jerry!!!

I think Jason is a wise choice to put into the car this weekend. I am kinda surprised that they did not put David Green in the car since Brewco and MBV/2 has some sort of affilation.

The scariest thing I heard was that they had put him in a drug-induced coma.

Drug induced coma does sound scary, but it really is not that uncommon after a severe accidents like his. I am concerned if he was put in the coma due to needing a ventilator, so he would not naturally fight against it.

I just read on TR that he was aware that people were in the room and acknowledged such by squeezing a hand when asked about it. He is not out of the woods yet, but the doctors are very, optimistic. That is great news, in a terrible situation. :D

There is a good interveiw with Mr. Fyre Of MBV/2 ( think he is am owner) at jayski! He said that Jerry has been sadated (sp?) so he is not in a coma thankfully.

Wasn't Davey Allison put into a drug indused coma or was it a "natural" coma??

I am starting to hear contradicting reports. Some places I am hearing he is critical but stable and vitals are good. Other places are saying that he has a fractured skull and that the prognoses dosen't look good. Im hopping the first one is right.

UPDATE 5/4 - 11:15am/et: this contridicts everything I have hear and posted but.....Winston Cup driver and Danbury [CT] native Jerry Nadeau remained in critical condition Saturday and was reportedly in an induced coma following his crash Friday at Richmond International Raceway in Virginia. According to a source close to Nadeau, the driver sustained a skull fracture and the prognosis as of Saturday afternoon was not good for Nadeau. The source also said a chaplain had been at the hospital most of the day. Nadeau's wife, Jada, arrived late Friday night and his parents reportedly were traveling from Danbury.(Hartford Courant)(5-4-2003)
