Joe Gibbs Racing will keep its motor shop while further combining efforts with TRD's motor program, team announces.

JD Gibbs says JGR will still have it's engine shop and work on projects. "not one person has to worry about being displaced"

Gibbs says team looking "to add Natinowide and truck program".

The new partnership between motor programs of Joe Gibbs Racing and TRD will "harvest absolute best" of both organizations, officials say.

Joe Gibbs Racing will now get most of its engines from TRD in California and then will tweak the motors at the JGR shop and at track.

Toyota's Lee White says Joe Gibbs Racing and Michael Waltrip Racing will have "identical" engines next season.

Puzzeling move, since JGR engines seem to have more power....and failures. Has JGR reached the limit for these Toyota engines? Are they considering a switch if Toyota can't up their game?

It's a solid move one that was forseen several months ago. Why not work together with your sponsor on engine development? I'm sure both Gibb's and TRD can learn from each others program.

Maybe. It's just hard to imagine what TRD brings to the table, other than slower, more reliable engines. That seems hardly worth having your stronger engine designes go to the competition without the big check.

Squeezing extra power out of an engine is what makes it more prone to failure. Without the power, they would be going backwards with their engines.

True enough but you've gotta admit JGR has been struggling 'big time' with engine failures this year. How's that saying go..... To finish first, first you have to finish. Or..... something along those lines.

Some interesting JGR engine numbers.....

JGR has had 11 engine failures in practice or a race this season. Denny Hamlin has had to start at the rear of the field four times because of an engine change and has fallen out of one race because of a blown engine. It’s no wonder he’s fighting for a spot to make the Chase instead of preparing for a title run as many predicted this year. Also, Joey Logano has had to start at the rear of the field three times because of engine changes and fallen out of one race because of a blown engine. Kyle Busch has had to start at the rear once because of engine issues and fallen out of one race because of that.

Dustin Long, who always digs for more story, clears some things up for me..

I had no idea JGR had that many failures.

In all honesty this tells me that JGR and TRD can't move too much more forward with the current engine. It seems that maybe the engine failures are due to JGR trying to keep up with Chevy and Ford. My guess is this is the first move in development of a new Toyota engine. If there really isnt much TRD can do in helping JGR with the current engine then why join up? Only makes sense if they are combining their resources so they can start working on a newer better engine.
