Johnson leads Day 1 Bristol COT Testing
The first day of testing at Bristol Motor Speedway ended Wednesday night after three sessions with No. 48A-Jimmie Johnson fastest at 122.007mph followed by No. 4A-Ward Burton, and No. 9B-Kasey Kahne, No. 11B-Denny Hamlin and No. 29A-Kevin Harvick. Slowest was No. 15A-Menard at 117.071.
Ward Burton crashed his Morgan-McClure Chevy in the final minutes of the session, destroying the front splitter and crushing the front end after making contact with the inside retaining wall off the frontstretch. Burton didn't hit the wall that hard, but the front end crushed significantly. Burton said that he didn't hit that hard.
"It was all over the place, I just slid down the track and hit the inside wall," Burton said. "No, it wasn't hard at all.”
NASCAR extended practice until 9:00pm Wednesday because of rain threat on Thursday afternoon. Teams will test Thursday morning until noon, but NASCAR said if the weather was holding off they could test until about 2:00pm.
