Dale Earnhardt Jr. hires Jimmie Johnson to drive for JR Motorsports

Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports is planning on hiring Hendrick Motorsports teamamte Jimmie Johnson to drive its No. 7 Nationwide Series car for the Zippo 200 next month at Watkins Glen, a team spokesman confirmed.

Johnson, who has not competed in a Nationwide event since October 2008, will use the race to get extra seat time on the road course. The Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen will be held the following day.

JR Motorsports has three races left to fill in its driver lineup for the No. 7 car.

Josh Wise will drive at least four more races (Indianapolis, Iowa, Bristol, Charlotte) and Danica Patrick will drive in six more events (Montreal, Richmond, Kansas, Texas, Phoenix and Homestead). Currently open are Atlanta, Chicagoland and Dover.

From here.

I don't mind Cup guys in Nationwide from time to time. It's just the guys that try and do it every week(Carl and Brad this year) that gets on my nerves.

Not only is Jimmie running the Nationwide race this weekend, Kurt Busch will substitute for teammate Brad Keselowski at The Glen. Maybe they will continue where they left off @ Pocono.

......which will lead to more drama on Sunday. Lately, Kez is doing everything right .

Ain't THAT a scary thought?! ;-}

Be it Brad, Kurt, The Captain or the crews, Penske Racing has really shown some consistency for the first time in a long time. It's good to see.

Maybe Robby Gordon should start drinking some of the Penske Kool-Aid, eh?

yep, roger never has shown the success in nascar that he has in open wheel. i'd love to include penske with roush, hendrick, childress and gibbs as a major player in nascar.

I wanna see a WWE style 3 stages of Hell match between JJ and Kurt. First Match is a regular wrestling match, then we have a street fight and last but not least a steel cage first blood match. JJ can have JR in his corner and Kurt can have Kyle(but I'm afraid Kyle would turn on him)

Oh Jimmie, you disappoint me. :(

Bad Jimmie, BAD! *Hits with rolled up Newspaper*

Hmmmmmmm, very interesting that 2 guys that have no reason to race nationwide and haven't in a while all of a sudden jump in a week after a dust up. What better place to get it out of your system than a road course in a series that doesn't matter. I'll be watching this for sure.

I think JJ planned to drive the 7 for some time now, and the sponsor is for his new video game. It is interesting that Sam wasn't picked to replace Brad, since that was the original plan. I hope Kurt and JJ keep banging and bumping like pro's.

I wann see 'em get outta their cars and have a little slap fight, ala Gordon/Burton:D

lol yeah, that was lame, but Gordon looked like he might have thrown down if Burton really came at him. Some people didn't like it, including Kez, but I thought it was funny and entertaining because I knew they couldn't really hurt each other.

Danica and ANY driver would be AWESOME!

“As Brad Keselowski continues to recover from the injuries suffered last week at Road Atlanta, Penske Racing teammate Kurt Busch will pilot the No. 22 Discount Tire/Ruby Tuesday Dodge Challenger in this weekend’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Watkins Glen International," Penske Racing President Tim Cindric said in a statement. "Penske Racing is fortunate that Kurt, who is a former NNS winner at Watkins Glen, is in its stable of drivers. We appreciate him lending a hand during this time. We will continue to monitor Brad’s recovery. His NNS schedule will be determined on a race-by-race basis.”
