Jimmie Johnson signs contract extension

 Big suprise there.
Chad holding out for more money? He should w/o him Jimmie wouldn't be half as good without Chad. *ducks looking for Jimmie fans*

No big surprise there, JJ will probably spend the rest of his Cup career at HMS. He and Lowes are going to be like Jeff and Dupont, Earnhardt and Goodwrench IMO. However, I really don't know that Chad will stay alot longer. Everyone recognizes him as one of the best Crew Chiefs in the business. I wouldn't be surprised to see him pull an Evernham and strike out on his own, or move on up in the Hendrick Organization.

No surprises, but that's good for JJ. Drivers who stick with their teams for a long time are increasingly rare in NASCAR. Drivers these days tend to jump ship as soon as they hit a rough spot, even if they've had past success with their teams (Junior, Harvick, etc). We'll see how JJ does once Kanus leaves. Gordon has had many rough years since Evernham left.

I don't see Knaus staying in a crew chief role for much longer. Sure, he's the best in NASCAR right now, but it's a tough job. I could see him trying to start his own team, or moving into a larger role at HMS.

Four championships in a row?

Chad is in line for the BIG BUCKS! I can see Hendrick making him offers he can't refuse..
Sure Evernham went on to bigger things...Where is he now? Stay there Chad and rake in the big bucks.. You've already made history, now make some more.

Betsy, I do agree with you, "stay there and rake in the big bucks" to a point. And now, 30 years later, I realize my mistake. My family didn't want for much. So many photos of my wife and kids on vacation, Disney etc and where was I? My nose to the grindstone missing out on the enjoyable things in life.
In retrospect I screwed up big time, there was always the next thing to do, I couldn't take time off. It hurts me when the photo albums come out and one of my kids or wife says "You should have seen...."

Sooner or later and I hope sooner Chad will stop to smell the roses. Life isn't all about money.

Hendrick also stated that he is in the process of putting an extension on paper for Knaus.

And Gordon will drive at least another 3-4 years according to Hendrick.

SST55, tell ya what I think.

I have seen people all my life that left what they were good at and went to something else that they found they couldn't do as good as others could..

There is a term for it that I can't remember at this time.. It means advancing to the point that you have no idea what you are doing..

Whatever it is that you do...do it well! Be the best damn cobbler there is, if that is your profession.

Chad has proved his worth! He's either the best damn crew chief there ever was... OR, he is riding on the merits of the best damn driver there ever was! In either case leaving that situation for the UNKNOWN would be one of the years worst mistakes.

I don't see how life could get better for him.. But I do keep in mind how the west was won. It wasn't won by pansies. It was won by folks that left what they had and conquered the unknown... but many failed and went back to what they knew.

I figure, at best, Jeff will probably be there till 2013. MAYBE 2015, but that'd be a stretch. Once Ella turns 7 or 8, he needs to be a dad more, for sure.

I can't read "Johnson" and "extension" in the same sentence without smiling. :D

Plus I don't think Jeff wants Ella getting into his Barbie collection....

I think Chad will say at HMS and eventually get into a management role when he decides he wants a life or possibly replace Larry Mac as the hardest working man in Nascar TV. He'll use Ray as a role model of what not to do, start a race team lose a wife and then lose the race team. Took Ray a while to get his life back on track and I don't think Chad wants to have to go through all that drama before settling down. I'm sure his work ethic is why his engagement faded away, he seems like a great guy but never home. Even JJ says that he feels Chad will get off the ride before he does.

...Chad is to boring (No personality) to be on tv full time.

I would agree with that. I pretty much guess another 3-5 years for Jeff too. Man, I would love to see one more championship before then!

BTW, for what it is worth, I like Chad on TV. Heck, he is as good as pretty much anyone else on there right now.
