Some of you may know about Jim Valvano. He was the head coach of North Carolina State's men's basketball team. He coached them to a national championship one year. However, more people will remember what he has done for cancer research. He died from cancer in 1993. Before he died, he founded the Jimmy V Foundation for cancer research. They have raised over $80 million for cancer research. That is a great legacy. I am posting a link to the speech he gave at the 1993 ESPY awards. He was awarded the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage that year. This was his acceptance speech for the award. He died very shortly thereafter. I found this to be one of the most inspiring speeches I have ever seen. If this doesn't light your fire, your wood is wet.
