JJ and Chad

Does anybody feel that Jimmy Johnson can win a Championship without Chad Knaus?

Welcome to the forums.....

As for the question..... Did you hear something that hasn't been reported yet? o_O There's nothing that I can see that points to Jimmie not being able to win a Championship without Chad. We've seen him win a weekends race without Chad on the box before so I'll say yes he can win a Championship without Chad.

Good to have new blood aboard. This is the age old question. Take a look around the forum and I'm sure you'll find plenty of debates about it.

Lil tip: if you can't stand the heat get off the asphalt.

Probably, although I doubt you'll see the same level of success from him once Chad leaves.

It would really piss off some of the antiJimmieites on here if Chad left and JJ won 12 races a year and 5 more championships with a new CC.

Welcome to the forum R.Cloke , of course Jimmie is capable of winning more championships without Chad . It is a fact , though , that many great driver/crew chief combos have fared better together than apart . Hope to hear lots more from you.

I seriously doubt that JJ could win a cup without Chad.

I think it would be much like when Evernham left Gordon: he wouldn't be as dominant, but still highly competitive and capable of winning the championship.
Exactly. It would be interesting to see this actually happen.... to put the debate to rest.

Really ? There's a debate ? He's one of the best drivers ever . Jeff and Ray are a good example but there are many others .
I agree. It's funny that every time Jimmie Johnson is mentioned in this context it is always Chad that makes him what he is. Change the driver to Kyle Busch then you never hear anything about Dave Rogers. How about Matt Kenseth and Jason Ratcliff? The list goes on and on.

I think their would be a better chance for someone else to win a championship if Chad and JJ parted.

The difference is that some drivers are play callers, others are play executors. Kyle is a play caller. Jeff, to much extent, is a play caller. Smoke is a play caller. Jimmie and Matt are play executors - meaning...most of the strategy comes from the crew chief, and they execute it. There's no right or wrong style...like being a QB...Manning is a play caller, Brees is a play executor. BUT...because of how involved the CC is to executors, it just appears like they're more important to the winning ingredients...which, of course, isn't true. Every true winning ingredient is 50/50...great driver, great CC (provided there's chemistry). So, to answer a (pretty ridiculous) question, Jimmie can absolutely, positively win a championship with a different play caller - as long as the play caller is good (breaking news!). In the same way Smoke, or any other play calling driver, won't ever win if their CC can't execute strategy. The bottom line is that good and good won't ever win a championship. Good and great might under the right circumstances. Great and great will compete for a cup every single season. JJ and Chad are great and great.

Yes, this question gets brought up all the time. Not saying Jimmie isn't one of the best ever but chad has proven he is as well.
So when you have two of that caliber together for so long ppl won't help themselves but wonder what if..

I understand that the question gets brought up . It gets brought up here quite often . Folks who bring it up seem to be trying to minimize Jimmie's talent in some way . I'm not a big Jimmie fan ,(mainly because I prefer a more outspoken competitor) , but if I can see that Jimmie will go down in history as one of the greatest drivers ever , I'm sure most everybody can . I love Allenbaba's explanation of drivers who playcall and drivers who execute . In my humble opinion ,that says it all about the difference between Dale Sr. and Jimmie . Both are among the greatest of all time.
