#NASCAR … JR Motorsports announces that Greg Ives, engineer for Jimmie Johnson for all 5 titles, has been named as Regan Smith's crew chief

This is a pretty big move. I wonder who Chad has lined up to fill the gap.

Jr. Motorsports a one car team next year? That's what I've been reading anyway. Cole Whitt looking for a new home?

They can't find sponsorship. It's sad, because Cole has real potential. I think being in Danica's shadow took away any opportunities to make things pay off for his previous sponsor. JRM could have done a much better job keeping Cole in the picture.

I think the lack of the Eury's taking advantage of all HMS had to offer , development wise, had a lot to do with his results. Once the ship was righted things started to turn around but too little, to late.

Jr. Motorsports slow transition to Cup? IDK

I used to think he may go that way, but now I doubt it. Jr said the whole purpose of the team is to give new talent a chance to shine. I think they realized they need to win to be financially viable, and that's where Regan comes in. I think it may take his being champ to attract sponsors to JRM for a second team.

It may be time for NASCAR to use a mentor system to make things work for everyone. A cup driver attracts the sponsor and races in a limited number of events, say 8. Help the new guy with setups, sponsor obligations, and gain him some championship points in those 8 races, then sit back for the last 5 races while the rookies settle things.

I think what those 2 did to Jr was unbelievable. Jr gives them an opportunity to help him build something special, and they let petty BS torpedo the whole thing.

Things change. He's done his part for years as far as giving guys a chance. And for the most part they've been very successful at the same time. That's changed. It's time to get back on track, so to speak. Listening to Kelly Earnhardt each week on Sirius NASCAR Radio's afternoon show with Dave, (The Shill), Moody, she's stated that they have to get an established driver in there to start producing. Maybe the plan is to put Jr. Motorsports back on the map and then take it from there. Where's that? Who the heck knows other than them. Maybe it is to a Cup program or maybe it is to start getting in development drivers again? Time will tell.

It sounds like they will be fielding a second car with kind of an All-Star field of drivers, bigger names.

Hendrick Motorsports says no decision made yet on a replacement for Greg Ives as No. 48 engineer. Team is considering candidates.

And so ,like every pro sports franchise , the foundations of the dynasty start to erode due to free agency .You just can't keep it together forever .

Guys started moving on 2 years ago, and it will continue. But they did fine this year. they have a lot of people to draw on. One thing that does happen when you have a few good candidates for a job everyone want's, the loser can get bitter and move on. HMS will be fine tough. They probably have 6 people knocking on the door for every 1 that leaves.
