Volunteer Speedway Fastrak Late Model Racing Series event rescheduled to Sunday, April 29
BULLS GAP, Tenn. - The Fastrak Late Model Racing Series Rusty Wallace Auto Group 50 originally scheduled for Saturday, April 28 has been postponed due to inclement weather and will run on Sunday, April 29. With drizzly rain conditions off and on during mid-day Saturday and temperatures in the upper 50s, the decision to reschedule the event until Sunday afternoon was made at noon.
The pit gate will open Sunday, April 29 at noon and the grandstand gate opens at 1 p.m. Hotlaps are tentatively scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., followed by qualifying at 3 p.m., with racing action getting the green flag around 4 p.m.
Highlighting the Sunday, April 29 racing program will be the Fastrak Late Model Racing Series in the $2,000-to-win Rusty Wallace Automotive Group 50, along with feature racing in the "Rusty Wallace Toyota" Hobby Stock, "Century 21 Masengill-McCrary Realtors" Mini Stock and "Lawson Chevrolet" Open Wheel Modified divisions.
Adult grandstand admission is $10, children 12-and-under admitted free in the grandstands when accompanied by a parent. Pit passes and backside tier-parking $30 for anyone entering the back gate.
For open practice Friday night, April 27 a strong contingent of 26 Fastrak Late Model Racing Series competitors were present. More cars are expected for Sunday afternoon's racing.
A few out-of-state invaders expected include 2006 Fastrak Late Model Series national champion Steve "HotRod" LaMance of Six Mile, S.C., Dennis "Rambo" Franklin of Gaffney, S.C., Ray Cook from Brasstown, N.C., Jack Pennington of Carnesville, Ga., Timbo Mangum of Lancaster, S.C., Jason Lawrence of Floyd, Va., Lee Cooper of Greer, S.C., Kenny Peeples Jr. of Rural Retreat, Va., John Pursley of Lancaster, S.C., Chase McCormick of Dobson, N.C., former NASCAR Busch Series and Craftsman Truck Series competitor Shane Hmiel, David McCoy of Franklin, N.C., and many more.
Leading "The Gap" locals looking to defend their home-turf is current Volunteer Speedway Crate Late Model points leader Dale Ball of Johnson City, who's already visited victory lane on three occasions this year, along with 2006 track champion Warren McMahan of Dandridge. Other locals expected to be in competition include Jerry Broyles, Bobby Mays and Kelly Glass, all from Jonesborough; Allen Champ, Shanon Buckingham, Logan Hickey and Tony Trent, all from Morristown; Shane Roberts of Bluff City, Brad Kenyon of Chuckey, Greg Burchett of Church Hill, John King Jr. of Kingsport, Todd Brooks of Greeneville, Josh Henry of Newport, Jensen Ford of Johnson City, John "The Wildcat" Llewellyn of Knoxville, Lee Tipton of Limestone, plus several others.
Prior to the start of the Rusty Wallace Automotive Group 50 for the Fastrak Late Model Series, all competitors will participate in a tennis ball toss. Cash will be inside each tennis ball, and a driver will toss their ball into the stands to a lucky fan.
