I was tweeting with an AP reporter last night, and some surprising things came to light.

Home Depot is under contract through 2013, but they want a new driver.

JGR didn't have a car for Joey to drive if Carl had signed. They planned to try and get him a sponsor of course, but things weren't looking good. They planned to put him in a NW car or loan him to JTG while paying his salary.

Joey needs to step it up big time to keep his career going, and he's only 21. I guess this is the downside of jumping into a high profile car at such an early age. Kez is right. Thinks have changed, and he is secure in the Millerlite car for just 2, maybe 3 years before his performance will decide his fate.

His Cup career isn't in trouble, just his tenure with JGR. If they fired Logano today, there would be a number of teams lining up to sign him.

Which top teams would be lined up? IF JGR can't find him a sponsor, who will? Some small team could sell a sponsor on a bargain contract sponsoring a bargain car, but being pushed out of a top ride in the Cup series is hard to recover from. His development as a driver would be hampered, and lesser equiptment isn't going to help him race to a win, which he hasn't been able to do driving for a 2 time championship team. I'm not suggesting that his career could be over. He has way too much talent to go away for long. All these drivers know their career is made in a top ride, so they work hard to get noticed. Joeys career isn't driving around in an also-ran car, but if he loses his ride, he may have to do that while he proves himself and gets another opportunity.

This may not be over if HD is done with Joey. IMO, HD should stick out the next 2 years because there isn't a better choice out there. All this makes me wonder if Zippy has lost faith in Logano. Maybe all those millions have distracted Joey. I think that if he toughens up and works harder, he could be a great champion. This near miss could be just what he needs to understand the precarious position he's in. You can bet HD has their eye on Kyle, who would surely love a one sponsor car, something that is becoming a bit hard to find.

Back to Ct tracks driving legends and crashing the field. With a cop or two in his pit to keep others from pounding his father into the ground like a tent spike.:owquitit:

I remember that Toyota sponsored race where he flat out walled some guy for the win and was disqualified. He's still chopping front ends though and paid the price last week when Jr didn't let him in.

They're kids. True they might have won a championship in go-karts or mini- bikes when they were 6 but they don't, as Ol' DW would say, have the 'sperience to get in a Cup, NNW or truck ride.

They're going from the coin operated horsey in front of WalMart to a thorobred race horse.

Sr, Rusty, DJ, Rudd, DW etc were all at least in their mid 20's before they got a shot. Yes it has worked out for a few, very few. Most are a danger to themselves let alone others on the track. Put those boys in cars from the 70's and they'll kill themselves.

The cars and equipment of today is designed to be as safe as possible. These drivers don't have the thought, not fear, in their head that no matter what they'll be ok in any crash. So they push the limits and at times pull stupid stunts and walk away without a scratch. BK might very well not have survived his recent crash in a car built as they were in the 70's.

I'm not sure he would have survived without Hans and the new frame. I'd like to see how much the driver compartment was compromised in that crash.

Brian Vickers, Regan Smith, Reed Sorenson and a bunch of other guys who showed potential, but ran out of time and had to start over.

I like Reed Sorenson but I've never thought of him as a quality Cup driver. He's exactly where he needs to be.

Vickers -- one Hendrick car always struggles. That was Vickers before Junyer came... then it was Mears, then Junyer. Now it's Martin. Next year, it'll be Junyer and Kahne.

Smith's never been with a Hendrick or Roush or Gibbs. Logano's spent his entire career in the best equipment money can buy.

Same could be said for Sadler after last year's Pocono crash. That was effen nasty!

How many think that recent first-time winner, Daddy's Money Menard, would still have been racing with a premiere CUP team if it weren't for Daddy's money? Not to take anything away from Paul's dramatic win. It was a well-orchestrated and well-deserved victory! But still...

Chances are that the Red Bull team will fold - barring a miracle - so that will put Vickers out of a job. With Vap-O-Rub and Mark Martin available, what team owner would pull the trigger on either of these drivers? Could Bowyer or Burton be released by RCR? Would RFR displace Reagan?

We shall see, I guess.

Sadlers was REALLY bad because it was such a sudden stop. Brad had some dirt, and the wall did give way and he went into the woods.

I like Menard, but without Dad he wouldn't have had a chance to develop in good equiptment. Lets be real about Indy. Landon turned it into a fuel mileage race and Menard's CC made a great call. I was screaming for Paul to call Brad in because he was locked into a 4 tire stop and it's a killer to do that under green at Indy. If he was able to take 2, he would have been right behind Stewart. The top 10 was full of slower cars, but that's how it goes.
