The O'Reilly MLRA rolled into the lightning quick US 36 Raceway on Friday, June 9, and when the checkered flag dropped Nebraska resident John Anderson found himself at the top of the heap in a hard fought win. The win was the first O'Reilly MLRA win of the 2006 Thunder Tour and moved him to four wins overall with the series.

From the drop of the green flag Alan Vaughn, driving a car borrowed from Sonny Findling, quickly moved to the front from his inside row two starting position to grab the top spot. Vaughn was able to hold off the charges of David Turner and Chris Smyser through the opening set of laps in the 30 lap event. On lap 9 Smyser lost a spot to John Hampel who worked into third and then into second passing Turner five laps later. With Vaughn continuing to set the pace Hampel was closing in on the leader, but Anderson was the man on the move having worked into the top 5 at the halfway mark after starting on the outside of 8. Lap 18 saw Anderson shoot around Turner into fourth and he found himself making a move on Smyser for third just three laps later and into second one lap after that. The laps began to wind down and Anderson was fighting to find a way around Vaughn and finally make the move with only three laps left. From that point Anderson kept his position at the front and roared under the checkered flag ahead of Vaughn. Hampel, Smyser, and Al Purkey rounded out the top five at the finish.

Thirty-nine cars signed in on the night with Paul Glendenning, Joe Kosiski, David Turner, Al Purkey, and Alan Vaughn coming out on top of heat race action. Justin Wells and Richard Foster, subbing for Chad Clark, continued their evenings with victories in the two B features contested.
