Odd Andretti Comment: John Andretti flipped idly through a newspaper, not really wanting to talk about his cousin Michael's decision to appoint Robby Gordon as substitute driver in Andretti Green's #27 cars for this year's Indianapolis 500. Andretti, son of Aldo Andretti (Mario's twin brother) and cousin of team owner/driver Michael Andretti, who will retire from driving after the 400, expressed off-the-record bitterness toward his cousin's choice. "I'll be there that Wednesday, and I'll qualify the car, because [Gordon] will be in the hospital by then," John Andretti said. Completely classless by John Andretti to say a comment like that. "I'll be there that Wednesday, and I'll qualify the car, because [Gordon] will be in the hospital by then," First of all, Michael Andretti went with the better driver for the job, and I respect that. John has to learn that winning is more important, Michael does not have an obligation to put his cousin in the car, Michael wants to win, so he puts a winning driver in the car. Also, John has to be very very careful around Robby since Nascar could look at any incident between both of them as a premeditated event by John.

Knowing the risks and dangers of the sport, why would any driver want to wish harm of another driver for the own selfish gratitude, completely ridiculous.

OMG! I can not believe he said that. I personally don't like Robby at all (sorry) but to say something like that is horrible. As much as I dislike him I would never wish for him to be hurt. That was just rude.

I'm not exactly a John Andretti fan, but that comment certainly doesn't seem to fit his personality. I'm hoping it was just disappointment and frustration running the mouth.

To be honest it is kinda funny to see John talk like that! He really has never spoke up about much untilll lately. I guess he could have found a better way to say it but I am glad he is speaking his mind now.

john said a comment like that and then finished 8th today.
looks like he's finally building some backbone.

He needs to say stuff like that more often. And have that special paint scheme the rest of the year. ^_^

If they would give the books out each race that would be cool! I wonder since he was driving for a good cause if he tryied a little bit harder or if the car was really that much better than before!!! I hope its the latter!

or maybe the kids taught john how to drive after he gave them the books ^_^

I don't blame John for being upset about not having a ride for Indy, when a ride opened up on his cousin's team one might think that family would have won out, I guess it didn't.

If someone I couldn't stand, much less a relative, gave Robby Gordon a ride over me I might never speak to that person again. That being said, I think it was pretty classless to say something like that. It was kind of funny though. B)

I find it ironic that people feel because he is related that he deserves the ride, yet because Jr is related he didn't deserve his ride. Although I am a RCR fan, I do not like reckem Robbie. However, I do think Robbie has a better chance of winning than John does. I just have never seen anything from John.

Is it that John can't drive or that he is in a PE car. They haven't set the tracks on fire for quite some time not.

I don't know. I really wish PE could put something together. It would be great for Nascar to get the PETTY name back out there.

I find a couple of interesting things here.

First off, if the comment was as stated "off the record" why did Mr. Blake feel compelled to print it? And was this comment the entire content of any conversation which Mr. Blake and John may have had? I am most often skeptical of such one line comments, especially when they seem so out of character for the speaker.

I did read the entire article, and found that the next quote from John was:

"I don't really have much to say," he added. "You guys only come around here when there's something like this to talk about."

Something about both the tone and content of these quotes leads to believe that there is some underlying tension perhaps between Ben Blake and John which precipitated these comments. John also mentions some sponsor confilicts between Coke/Pepsi which affected the deal as well. Perhaps a conflict John hoped one or the other would overlook, but it did not happen.

John wants to run Indy badly, everyone knows that. He also did not want to discuss this issue which the article makes clear. Anyone woul likely have some bitterness. For Ben Blake to apparently (though this is speculation on my part) seem to have no respect for John's wish, deserves a BS response to his questioning.

At least people know where Rubby runs good. Maybe he should stay there.

I dont understand. Everyone that has replied in this thread has made intelligent and smart posts which have added to the conversation. Right there you just added something that has no value whatsoever. To me it seems you are just trying to instigate something, in other words you are no better than the trolls, like that Junior troll guy who got banned.

Yep, I'm a troll. Go ahead, ban me paul, for speaking the truth.

Not truth, its your opinion. Maybe paul should ban you.

This is a thread abotu John and Robby, lets not get into member bashing!!

That is enough!! Both of you go to your rooms. When you can behave in a civilized manner you may come out.

Stick to the topic of the thread not to personal attacks. This is a warning.
