John is racing in the Nationwide series this week-end, and will probably race in Vegas too. His dad, John II, went to high school with my sisters, and was best friends with my Brother-in law.
Jim My brother-in law, bought a 55 chevy, to race at Cajon Speedway ( local track), and John was to be his crew Chief. ( this was 1969 ). But Jim's draft status went to 1A, so he gave the car to John and enlisted in the Navy. He knocked up my sister shortly after that, and somehow got dis-charged, while John went on and raced. He was a Local Champion many times, and raced some NASCAR much like John III does now. He used to take me for hot laps in his car, and let my brother-in law drive it sometimes.
John II has a big shop still....last time I saw him, he was building a Monster truck for someone. They use the under Carriage from a CAT rubber tired ( 910?) loader to build those things....with the articulating steering.
Anyway...just wanted to share that with you. I don't know John III but My nephew was a guest in the pits at one of the Fontana races a few years ago.
