LOS ANGELES (Sept. 12) - John Ritter, whose portrayal of the bumbling but lovable Jack Tripper helped make the madcap comedy series ''Three's Company'' a smash hit in the 1970s, has died, his publicist and longtime assistant said Friday. He was 54.

Ritter fell ill Thursday on the set of his ABC sitcom ''8 Simple Rules ... For Dating My Teenage Daughter,'' said Susan Wilcox, his assistant of 22 years. The cause of death was a dissection of the aorta, the result of an unrecognized flaw in his heart, said his publicist, Lisa Kasteler.

Ritter died at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center shortly after 10 p.m. Thursday. :(

That really does suck for both of his wives and all of his kids :(

This really came as a shock. He was in "8 simple rules" also, he played the voice of Clifford The Big Red Dog.

I got the following from CNN.com:
He was the youngest son of Western film star and country music legend Tex Ritter, according to his biography on ABC's Web site.

John Ritter was born on September 17, 1948. He is survived by his wife, Amy Yasbeck, and their daughter, Stella, and three children -- Carly, Tyler and Jason -- from his first marriage to Nancy Morgan.

Here's another article that gives a little more information. May he rest in peace, and my thoughts and prayers to his family. :lilangel:

at least not any that aren't gay

Rotten day for country music fans...Tex's son dies & the 'REAL' man in black dies (Johnny Cash).

I really love these old country singers...my parents were big fans & they 'forced' me to see folks like Roy Acuff, Jeanne Frickee & 'forced' me to listen to Freddie Fender, Tanya Tucker, Dolly P, Kenny R, etc, when I was a kid. Hopefully I didn't butcher any spellings.

I am a heavy metal/70's rock fan, but I really enjoy listening to the new country/rock artists like Faith, A. Jackson & Travis Tritt. One of my fav's is this young gal from Florida named Mindy McCready. She is a hottie & has a voice that...oh man! I hope she can make it like the Dixie Chicks did, IMO she is ten times better.

OMG... :(
It's a shock to me...I really enjoyed his comedy acting. (Three's Company absolutely)
RIP John.

ABC to Continue Late John Ritter's Sitcom

ABC Television said Tuesday it will continue the sitcom that showcased the late John Ritter, showing his television family coping with the death of Ritter's character on "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter." ... Full story.

I was wondering about that. Good to hear they are going to continue, although IMO Ritter made the show.

That seems like a pretty good idea (continuing the show). Now, we'll just have to see how they pull it off. I never watched the show before as I generally hate sitcoms with a burning passion, but I might be interested to see how this plays out.
