ROCKINGHAM, N.C. -- Busch Series pole-winner Johnny Benson will move to the rear of the field for today's Goody's Headache Powder 200 after failing post-qualifying inspection Friday evening.

The right front coil spring on Benson's No. 1 Dodge was determined to be only 4 1/4 coils, rather than the required 4 1/2 coils.

Benson, the 1995 Busch Series champion, had never won a Busch Pole before Friday's effort.

As a result, David Green, who qualified third, will start from the Busch pole.

The Goody's Headache Powder 200 gets underway at 1 p.m. ET.

Why was he not disqualified outright, instead of still getting credit for the pole? I like Johnny, and I know he didn't put the spring in the car, but if it's illegal, he shouldn't get credit for the pole.

If he falied inspection, the speed should be disallowed and whoever was second should be on the pole. After all, if was a an illegal car in some aspect.

David Stremme had the fastest speed of a legal car and deserves the pole award.

Benson would make the race regardless. He is a past champion and would grab the 43rd spot on the past champions privisional.
