Johnny Carson, late-night TV legend, dies at 79

Johnny Carson, host of NBC's "The Tonight Show" for nearly 30 years, died Sunday of emphysema.

"He passed away this morning," Carson's nephew, Jeffrey Sotzing

Carson, a longtime smoker, was 79 and had announced in 2002 that he was suffering from the disease.

Carson was host of the late-night talk show from October 1, 1962, to May 22, 1992

I also was a big fan of Jack Paar's show.
 
There will never be another one like him. He was hilarious. We'll miss you Johnny!! :( :(
 
Cigarettes got him.. And everyone in my family! I am now the oldest living of my relatives. Damn cigarettes anyway!
No doubt he was the best of our time.. Remember when he did it ALL? Sky diving, scuba and everything on earth is what Johnny did. He lived a full younger life that is for sure.
I heard it said on the news that he received 40 million for his last year on TV. That is still a lot of money. Also said his show made more money for the network then any show before or since.
